8.2:1 will be fine...most of the pistons available from the states are for the blacks tops any way

something like Focus Central pistons will be ok...or try Ian Howell at area six who specialises in zetecs - 01522877887 and he can supply pistons

10.5:1 is too high...you need about 8.2:1 and it will easily see 250hp

ideal is 8.2:1....you wont be able to run alot of boost with 9:1 and if you do try to....you need an EXTREMELY good intercooler and fuelling and mapping!

A little hint, ST170 head gasket is a 4-layer full stainless gasket and is nearly 0.5mm thicker than the standard 3-layer version used in other black tops.

calibra turbo pistoons do have a ratio of 9:1 ando produce a fair bit of power, these are a popular choice of piston by ZVH builders. but i have got steel rods and the pistons wont fit them, think i may be buying a set of custom made ones from diamond, and have already chose my managment (emerald).. will see how it goes.

The only real difference (if I recall correctly) between the 2 engines is a crank/rod geometry change with the better geometry being in the black top. Ideally you want the crank out of the black top too so you can take full advantage of the revised geometry.

yeah i know there are probably loads of people doing it...there are also loads of people running 10-11:1 with more than 2bar boost but i know 8.2:1 CR is available using JE pistons for the zetec and i know a fair few people running 8.2:1 and hitting over 250-280hp no problems...all down to mapping and intercooling at the end of the day

also depends if the car is a top speed racer or a quick point to point car with minimal lag

9:0:1 on the 48cc zetec head with the 57cc cvh head you'll end up with a compression ratio of 8:4:1 so you would have to use a 1.2mm de-comp plate or have the chambers cnc machined out.

1.2mm cvh head 57cc so with those je pistons and eagle rods comp ratio = 8:4:1 with 1.2 de-comp plate 7:8:1

with those rods and pistons speak to mike @ ferriday engineering tel 01785 621710 he can machine the chambers to gain some more cc or work out what de-comp plate thickness you'll need.
