Connecting pc LCD screen to view tv?
how could i do this? could i just connect my outside ariel to the monitor or sky digibox straight to the monitor or would the only way be by getting a tv card in my pc
There is only one decent one on the market that does this:
http://www.mediaatlantic.com/product...ee157c580547d1
and that is the cheapest price you get one from but they do appear on Ebay!

What i've got is a 19" lcd/tv moniter from pcworld, this is simply a 19" moniter with a box like that above bolted to the back. It's got three phono's in [playstation/dvd player] and a standard tv aerial plug. Sooo you can then simply take a tv co-ax aerial lead from your sky box to your moniter. it also has a remote so you can easily switch between tv/pc functions.
and if that isn't good enough it has a audio out [although not surround sound sadly] so you can have the tv sounds out the pc sound system.
It was about £150 iirc but really is worth every penny.
The only downer is it doesn't have a scart plug on the back.
Something else i've seen in pcworld is a tv stick. It's about the same size as a usb memory stick and plugs into your usb port and gives acess to freeview channels. It also has a standard aerial socket which i guess you can then connect to sky.

If you want proper computer monitor/TV then this bad boy is probably the one to go for a the moment:

YOu want to view TV on your PC screen right?
If you are using the screen connected to your PC (as in, not a seperate screen) then you only really have one choice, which is a TV card for the PCi slot, to which you plug an aerial in, and run software on the PC to view the TV pic on your TFT.
If however, you have a SEPERATE screen, NOT connected to the PC, you can do this a number of ways.
1) You can use a specifically designed Digital TV "set top box" that has a VGA output to plug into your monitor
2) you can get something like this : http://www.3wisemonkeys.co.uk/prodde...id=1525&cat=50 - which is what I am thinking of doing if I can get hold of a monitor cheap enough
or 3) you buy a dual head graphics card, and a PCI TV card, install software from both, and connect both screens to the PC. You will be able to view the PC stuff on one screen, and the TV stuff on the other.

yeah ive got a 200 quid graphics card so its got 2 inputs for 2 moniters, but you were right ive just got the one LCD which is for a pc so it would be tv card time then, so i think ill leave it until i buy a proper lcd tv because this pc one is only a 17" which for me wouldnt be big enough for viewing tv on, just thought if i already had the means to do then i mayaswell, but i dont so never mind
Or you buy this:

Seems I post and people ignore them!! Spent a few hours researching the best gadget to to do this and the best monitor with it all built in as I need a solution for my step son.
And the best monitor is:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-SM21...&s=electronics
Sounds dear - but well worth it from the spec. Some LCD have shite response time and they display only 16.2 millions (not the full 16.7) colours on thr larger 20/21" montiors

Jay - I thought that aswell, and the added bonus to it is, when you aren't viewing TV on the second screen, having the option 3 set up would allow you to have a two screen desktop - so different windows and apps can be on different monitors...
I am thinking when I get my place, I probably won't have room for a conventional TV set in the room with the PC, so a matching monitor to mine with that DVD/Freeview box (option 2) which has the all important VGA output, would be a good idea. Independant screen and dvd/tv box.
And if I could afford it, I'd get a 24" widescreen TFT monitor and one of them dvd/freeview boxes for the bedroom also
But them 24" TFT monitors cost bucks

Jay - only thing with the tramsnitters is that you would need to do the playing from your PC, and then hot foot it downstairs to watch it, and if you need to pause or whatever, you have to leg it back upstairs etc....
There are various devices out there specifically designed for streaming audio and video from PC's to TV's and hifi set up's, this would probably be a better bet for you.
