I use to get low to mid 30's on a run and an average of 22-25mpg round town. Nice torquey engines that will let you pull away in 3rd gear if your lazy like me I'm getting the same kind of figures from my 740 Bm'er

Kim - My 2 V6s were thirsty buggers - 20-22mpg round town. 14mpg towing the Cossie on a trailer, and the most I ever got on a run would be 30mpg at a steady ish 70...

Nice engine to laze around with at low speeds / revs, but they are not THAT quick for the fuel used and engine size.

Mondeos generally are great cars though, and I'd have another just like that.

hi Kim

My ST24 used to do 320-350 miles on a full tank of Ł50quid petrol.
Overall superb car, very understated, not as nice as my Mk4 golf TDI tho

Hmmm but a lot cheaper to buy and same insurance.....

Been to look at some golfs and i do really like em, but the St24s are just so much cheaper, and since we have just bought a house money is everything atm

true, i sold my ST24 2mths ago,80k FFSH 1 previous owner tottally standard bar the mandatory metal pump for Ł1800, and just bought a T plate TDI with 50k FSH for 3k, but i am saving Ł100 per month on fuel, plus the golf seems to be cheaper to maintain, at least you aint gotta worry about cambelts in an ST which was good for me, with my track record

my ST was bar far one of the best cars i ever owned
you looked on ebay, always some on there going cheap sometimes too

I like the ST24. Thought about one myself int he past but the FWD thing put me off. I would take the Golf from a tuning perspective, but if you just want to leave it standard then as a Ford fan I'd be very tempted by the ST24, and they do seem to be awesome value.

I had a st24 a few years ago and loved it tbh

it was a fantastic car ,never let me down ,and maybe i shouldnt have sold it

chipped mine and it was better on fuel ,personally i thought it was great on fuel considering the weight of car with all the toys etc

just make sure the water pump has been upgraded to a metal impellor item and ur fine

mine went well ,pulled great for size

ok it maybe aint cossie fast etc but its RELIABLE and asks for more ,lol

heres a piccy of my old one

I have Just bought one, Its been really good so far, I have replaced the
dodgy crappy plastic water pump !!!

The fuel comsumption is not great tbh 22-25 MPG but 30MPG on a motorway
Tis a nice and smooth engine, sounds great too..

I am really impressed with the all round handling/power etc..

Althought i am on the search for a chip..

Mines was done by Collins

took ecu out the car and sent it to them

they chipped it and sent it back following day (24hr service)

plugged it back in and went for a drive to settle car in etc etc before booting it

car was rollin roaded laters and i had a miltek exhaust system and pipercross induction kit and was the usual 12-15 bhp more than standard with it getting better and better each run

car drove nicer when chipped also

ST24s are brilliant cars, had mine almost from new done well over 100k mls with no problems at all. Early cars had issues with plastic water pump impellors.
Nice looking, plenty of room inside, massive boot, FORD, sound fantastic (with a 57i kit).
Even been on track at donnington twice with it.
And you won't be one of the sad twats how think there gods gift cos they have got a poxy Golf (tossers).
Only my opinion of course.

buy whatever you want kim, except my golf cos it went in part ex yesterday against my new bmw 535 sport.ended up taking Ł3200 for it in p/x

now im not biased,i would say buy a golf gt tdi if you can find one at right money, but for Ł1500 there are some decent st24's out there.not thought about a puma.......(back on sales pitch again!)

i'd rather have a 1.7 puma than a st24 myself, better fuel economy, and does go alright aswell.
