rear disk conversion.
thinking of doing this at the monment but would be nice to know if it is really worth it? and do you have to have a bias valve to stop it swapping ends under heavy breaking?
Thats gota be a first you asking the questions
I think the general view on it is that when you are, and i quote, "take the piss braking" then things can get a little hairy.
And fitting discs on the back is when you start increasing the travel on the pedal, the pistons are massive for rear calipers.
On the plus side, they look the tits......
and changing pads is easy

I had them on my S2 for 5 years, but just went back to drums at the beginning of this year due to a change of wheels (I needed the rear wheels to sit a little further in to stop fouling the arch).
IMO they are more for show than go, so i wasnt too sorry to take them off.
You can adjust the severity of braking with the load sensor valves easy enough, best done on an MOT brake tester, so you shouldnt really need a bias valve.
Just get them set up so they brake as much as the drums used to...
Handbrake was always shit on mine though, nowhere near as good as the drum handbrake...
As Safechav says though, they look the tits!!!

Marc LJX, you probably don't want to hear it but there are ways to stop the discs pushing the wheels out, mine are only a coouple of MM spaced out now.
But mine being a MK3 they still didn't clear the arches, on a MK3 the ONLY way is to have the arch modded. And alike....mine doesnt have variable load valves.........

Do you have to get the hubs machined or something?

Definately yeah, but how do you know how much to safely take?
I have been known to do the occasional trackday...
If one of the hubs failed that would see some serious end swapping action

Please don,t compare a 15 year old ESCORT RS TURBO to an up to date RACE CAR.The stopping efficienncy of REAR DISCS over DRUMS on an ESCORT is minimal.
Also note the ammount of exclamation marks iv,e used to show my rage.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I much preferred the discs on the rear of mine to drums:
a) The handbrake was far superior! You can easily lock both rear wheels for a swift handbrake turn which I could never do with Drums
b) Much easier to change pads which is important when doing a few track days
Also, the bias valve is a must!

Once set up correctly (no one else seems to have mentioned this) the front
of the car doesn't dive as much with disc's. Which, apart from (subjective comment alert) 'slightly better' braking is the nicest effect.
But if anyone is considering this conversion it's essential to steel braid all the hose AND remove the scs pumps and ALL the rubber hoses that run to+from
them to enjoy 'proper braking'. ........I.M.O. obviously gents.......

my mate changed his to discs on the rear and was always wary of the arse end coming out...
I changed mine AND the fronts, removed the ABS and braided the lines. Never had a problem, I think thats the key really
and totally agree with John, the handbrake is lovely, just make sure you put it on with the foot brake pressed down when you park up after a spirited drive, if not it can lead to your car rolling away

Someone else knows him well then
Mine has disc's because they work and are designed to do just what ivorbiggun posted.
Car brakes from all 4 corner and keeps it level which is essential when left footing it round corners

i've had disks on a few rst's, i don't have problems with them, as said because the rears are braking more it stops the car diving as much, plus i hate drums, akward to work on & look a bit tat.
