Default price on group a/wrc front driveshaft

Does anyone know the price on these items.
and also whats the diameter on the input spline for the front diff.
And also the diameter on the input spline on the cross shaft.

does anyone know?

Group A and WRC fornt shafts are miles apart, price wise, you could get a pair of group 'a' shafts circa £250 a pair.....wrc shafts £1500 a pair, the drive shaft diameter and outer cv joints are different on the WRC car, similar but not quite the same as the later grp 'a' tarmac shaft,

When you say dimeter of the input spline for the front diff...I dont quite understand what you mean....front diff has a flanged input from the front prop which is splined into the transfer box...

Similarly the X shaft has a flange each side of the sump to accept 1 100mm Lobro joint..

The grp'a' and wrc car also have differing lengths of shaft....

WRC front diff with 100mm Lobro output flange

WRC front prop

Two different type of grp 'a' shaft....gravel & tar..

The only WRC ones I have are on the car so I cant take a pic.

Splines on front shaft are 27 spline 25mm

Splines on rear shafts are 28 spline 30mm

We use 100mm lobros on front 110mm Lobros on rear.

I aint got an FFD 8.5" cross shaft out to measure as it too is assembled on the car...and its a bit of work to remove....

Thanks for a great answer mate.
The reason i ask is that i have a 7.5inch r&d diff, and the standard crossshaft didnt fit, because it was to small.
But on the other side there is a flange, so i probably need to fit a grp a item on this flange.

So then it leaves me with a couple more questions.
will a grp a/wrc xshaft fit in the standard cossi 4x4 sump? (the differential needs some machining to fit..)
if not what is the price on grp a sumps?
and does the grp a driveshafts have the same splined end as the original shafts so it fits standard wheel hubs without any problem?

Mark post a pic of the diff up...

Ive only ever had the ford grp'a' stuff so I cant tell you really about the R & D, but if you were fitting a grp 'a' 7.5" diff, you would need the correct sump and cross shaft for it all to marry up, at each side (diff and sump) you would then have ouput flanges to accept the inner lobro's (100mm on ours) if you were using standard uprights you would have to get one off drive shafts to convert to standard out cv joints....I have been involved in car with this set-up and we had some shaft made by Dennis @ Dome.

Grp'a' 7.5" sump are I think approx £1K cross shafts approx £500....WRC sump for the 8.5" are 2.5K cross shafts £1k s/h....

grp'a' shafts are not splined the same as a standard shaft

Ok here is the picture of the diff:

And the flange that is on the right hand side.

Now i havent measured it, so how du you measure these?

And also it seems like the splined shaft must be smaler on the left (xshaft) side of the diff, as i couldnt fit this flange on that side as it was to big.

But i prolly need a grp a sump then, and modify the group a driveshaft if its not smarter to go for group a hubs at the same time.

Mark,

Thats R & D's version of a grp'a' diff...it should fit your standard sump but you will need their cross shaft (its a unique cross-shaft to R & D) and some shafts which use 100mm inner lobros to whichever outer (grp 'a' or standard) you use...

The lobro's shown in the pic above would fit on the inner side....

Demon tweeks do sell lobros but they are available a little cheaper....

Thanks ian, i did believe i could use the standard sump after some machining, so that is a good thing that i can spare that expense.

But do you know if the standard grp a driveshaft will fit directly on the lobro i have?
I guess the other end of the r&d xshaft is the same aswell, so if the grp a items fit im probably sorted as long as i fix the hub issue.

Do you or anyone know who supplies grp a shafts?
Should probably get the tarmac parts as i believe these are thicker?
Do you know the different lengts of tarmac/gravel compared to standard 4x4 driveshafts?

Mark,

Measure the outer diameter of the flanges and measure across opposite bolt holes (PCD) and that will determine the size of inner lobro you require.

The drive flange spline in the hub you use will determine which outer CV you use, if you plan on using standard hubs etc you will have to have bare shafts made that are of a standard size and spline count...

Two Options for shaft design :

Dennis Osbourne @ Dome has grp'a' shaft on the shelf...
Tel +44 (0) 1527 577550

I dont have any standard shafts here so I cant help you re standard shaft length, diameter and spline count.

Regards

Ian
