Default Series 2 Header Tank

Anyone know why they expand

When i bought my series 2 the header tank had expand and my mate gave me a brand new header tank from fords so i fitted that and now thats split its only been fitted a couple of months

Anyone know why they keep expanding????

Did u change the cap as well? The cap relieves pressure above 15psi - or should. You could have a head gasket problem.

Excessive pressure build up is the only way its going to expand and split.

And as Rick says - this could well be the result of a failing gasket

Its the old cap

It is using a bit of water but have no leaks there is no water in the oil

You won't necessarily be getting cross contamination.

If your losing a bit of coolant aswell.............

Compression test and leak down test can never go a miss!

Will get a compression test done on saturday

take cap of and rev it, look for bubbles.

common problem on esorts,
if you are geting exesive pressure , could be your head gasket

Well done a compression test and a leak test light night and its fine

All have done is fitted the old header tank and the old cap which is red while the cap on the new header tank that split was yellow

Done about 100 mile today and hasnt used any water

You should also test for Hydrocarbons in the water. Can be done with an Exhaust gas analyser.
