Default Snapped bolts in head!

While changing my thermostat I have managed to snap 2 of the bolts that hold the housing on

They have snaped clean off and there is nothing at all that I can grip.

It is a CVH

any ideas?

LOL, On one bolt the car louses all its water in 5 secs

Should I just put the car in the garrage and leave it until next show session?

What do you gugs think of this

I wouldnt drill it out as you risj damaging the thread. Buy some left hand threaded easy outs. I bought a set of them and they're awesome. Cheap to, I think a set was less than a tenner.

Yes you can but i'd try & take the old one's out propperly first mate. Summat simillar happened to me once & i had to score the end of the remainder of the bolts just enough to unscrew them out with a screwdriver. It took ages but i got it done

Weld a nut into the stud if it's not too deep.

if the thread is already damaged it sounds like you have made a right hash of this one and you are going to risk snapping the easy out trying to get the sheard bolt passed the damaged thread..... good luck..ur going to need it....

If theres enough thread showing, why not use the 2 nut trick???

Scew on 2 nuts tight, then use the first nut you put on to get the sheard thread out.

it won't move as the top nut dont let it....................

But you've probalby tried that thinking about...

Mate drill small hole in centre of the snapped bolts then use these to get it out

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=040213030

Then use these to re-tap thread

Matt.

easy out will be the best option, drill a small hole in the centre of the snapped stud so the easy out has got something to bite into,if you aint got a set pm me your address and i will post you my set and you can return them when you have finished.should only cost £1 to post.

this is now the problem

it has snapped clean off at the surface of the head!

The bolt at the top seams to work

The one on the side just spins

All the bolts don't go right through to the head, and there is lots of room, so it should be do-able in situe.

How do you get a M8 bolt out? seams a bit small to drill?

if you're going to get some easy-outs then make sure you spend just a little bit more and get a decent set (i.e snap-on), you dont want it snapping on you!
