hi guys,at present i have a clio16v on nos,soon to be sold -great allrounder,but not enouugh gutts off the gas,so i'm looking at buying a escort rs 250/300bhp 2.0 zetec,never been in one but love the looks,so a few questions for you guys in the know,how quick are these things on the role?are we talking bmw m3,impreza,evo quick?or am i getting carried away a bit?are they a reliable car?and how much do you think i could pick one up for already converted?got about 6k to spend

a 300bhp RS Turbo will waste an evo/imprezza (after it stops wheelspinning) i assume they'll do an M3 too?

also is the car already a 2.0 zetec turbo, or do you wanna do it yourself?

300bhp RS Turbos are NOT very common! i know of about 4

 

sorry mate i thought there were more 300bhp ones about,is 250 a more realistis figure for a zetec turbo?i was gonna buy one already converted?don't know much about rs turbos,from what i've heard i thought this was the best engine conversion?was hoping to buy one off here or a similar forum or mag

 

for 6 grand you will get the engine, turbo and management if your lucky then you just got to buy the rest of the car

 

Buy a cheap RS, then buy SOY's old engine for 6k!

 

I thing lewis (B19 TRB) is thinking of selling his, has about 300bhp and 350lb torque

BMW M3 are well over rated, my boss has one (53 plate) and i recon a 200bhp escort will show it up.

Zetec 16v turbo engines are becoming fairly popular and most engine builders will make one, expect to bay around the 4K mark for a decent build though.

 

Even if the RST was fast enough to go to the moon and back in 0.00001 secs it would NOT 'show up' an E46 M3

They are QUALITY cars and very fast around a circuit and in a straight line. Awesome to drive and own...

seen a few smart rs's with zvh for sale for between 4 to 6k is that not the same thing ,what about the 1.9conversions?i guess what i'm trying ask is are these cars reliable with high power conversions,and what should i buy with 5to6k to blow on an rs,which engine for fast road use?enlighten me guys

Sorry to be arguementative but my boss has one and i go in it regularly and just can't believe how pants it is, mind you it has the stupid padel shift .

sounds like a sloppy fart as well and is not exactly break nect fast.

a 200hp escort IMO would take it, perhaps not away from the lights but down a strip i'd put my money on the ERST.

 

Yeah but not everything revolves around the strip and the traffic light grad prix. I'm pretty sure an M3 would out handle a beantin.

 

Try and buy one already done... thats what I did- But look for a reputable company.

The cars are reliable enough but remeber its very highly tuned at 300bhp no matter what engine you choose and no matter how your gonna drive it life expectancy is always lower.

IMHO Dont touch a ZVH with a shitty stick. 1.6/1.9 cvh or Zetec turbo's seem good.

Yep buy one that's been done, and done well.

But as said, the higher the BHP the more £££ your going to be spending as things will go pop on you.

You should be able to use a 250bhp 2.0 zetec turbo lump without to much stress and hassle, so long as all the other items have been upgraded to match, clutch, box, brakes etc.

Only trouble is, is that this engine mod is relatively new so there aren't going to be loads out there and they won't be cheap, a really well done CVH lump with all the trimming, minty body work and sorted interior is a good option and will leave plenty of change from £6k, plus there are loads out there for you to pick at.

Once you own a turbo'd motor it becomes very hard to go back to a normally aspirated car, you'll love it.

mine was a 1.9 tall block with 246bhp ( 14.1 1/4 @ 101.7mph)) and lashed everything i raced except 911 turbo and 360 modena, beat m3s on the drag strip and road, they are well quick mate, but then i bought a coz and realised what top end power really was!!! personally id buy a coz stg 3 it and youll lash most things on the road, youll get a minter for 6k with all the right bits

 

p.s. is your m8s astra the red mint one with the calibra turbo lump in it, if so its fuckin lush, seen it at strathclyde park

 

was considering a saph 4x4 cossie but pressumed a 250bhp rs would be quicker on the role ,thought they lost about a 3rd of the power due to 4wd?

my mates astra is a gold one,a bit of a shed,but a quick fooker-a good street sleeper!

 

A 4x4 Saff will launch better and have much more potential.

 

You are right, thats a poo gearbox, but its a great car in my opinion and when I said show up I wasn't talking about speed

 

a 250 bhp will kill a stg 1 4x4 saff but its close between a stg 3 and rst with genuine 250bhp, buy a 2wd stg 3 it, fookin right larf, ive just bought mine and having never driven rear wheel drive before i was shitting mesell , but being a bit stupid i stg 3'd it after 3wks and as long as you respect it and dont boot it in the wet there fookin mint and leagues ahead of me rst m8, power is totally different to rst, 4th and 5th are amazing on the motorway, i cant see much keepin up never mind beating a well set up coz

 

sorry but you're having a giraffe saying a 200bhp RST is a match for a E46 M3.

No RST is a match for an E46 M3, admittedly a 300bhp RST will probably match it in a straight line but overall the E46 is an awesome car, END OF STORY!!!

Editted to add all RST'S drive like the fwd tin cans they are and are basically shite, no matter how much power they have!!

Yes mate E46 is latest one.

You're looking at 0 - 60 in 5 seconds, and 100 in 12 secs. 200bhp RST's don't even get close to this, and then from 100mph upwards it'll take a 300bhp RST to equal the M3. (E46 is limited to 155mph)

Once we move onto handling well don't anyone comment about the RS turbo being a match else I'm going to have to burst out laughing!!

 

Who gives a toss about motorways?

The BMW is classier, faster, better handling, better balanced, superior, better looking, and more reliable.

But no, go for the RS Turbo if cruizin and racing nuff mates dan the high street is your thing

 

i've seen 02 SMG's at only mid 20k's lately.
and the qtrs are mid 13's, how many 200bhp RST can do that

 

you'd get a 2.1 ZVH for £6k and i reckon that would waste evo's and imprezas ~250bhp.....dont expect it to be overly reliable tho!

A good RST will seriously upset some powerful cars. Mine made 248bhp and I have destroyed several imprezza's with it as well as giving a Porsche Carrera 4 a run for his money.

I've had no cause to complain about the reliability as it's been very good (*thats fooked it though *). The older M3's are well within the reach of a good RST the newer ones are a bit more special. Problem with Imprezza's and M3's however is they are like clits, every cnut has one

TBH I'd go for a Cossie. I wish I had now but I've spent and invested too much in my RST to go back.

 

Did both old and new m3's in the heap jake, new one was a bit harder but the guy still stopped to chat after i dusted him only car that over took me was karl in the 3 dr pmsl and matt when i lifted on the old setup with chad in.Great when peeps wanna chat and you tell em its still 1.6 had so much fun in the old girl pal hope you have the same

 

you cant beat an rs turbo for power per pound simple as that,look how old an rs is now and theyre still pissing over these so called"hot hatches" yeah a bmw is better quality because it costs a helluva lot more. nuff said

rubbish a cozz beats a rst power for pound all day long, you tell me where i can buy a 330bhp rst for £3500, you cant, but there are loads of cozz with that power for £3500, power for pound the coz is untouchable mate, had both, cost me £4000 for 1.9 engine , turbo , chip, etc to get 246 bhp, bought a coz for £3000 .......£500 later and 330bhp
