I don't run a cam cover at moment but it is a bit silly when you think of the damage you can cause if you get a stone in the belt...
What does anyone else think of this?
I REALLY should run one bearing in mind Sean Bicknell stuck the Sierra in a Gravel trap 2 years ago and a little stone got in and the cambelt jump a tooth!!!
got away with it luckily enough
Opinions? and which look better? Carbon, bufty or standard?

carbon looks tacky imo
if your going to fit one... fit a STD esc cos one
looks 1000 times better than the blocky crappy saph one
thinking about it, i always used to swear by using one.. but look at the rallycross boys..... they dont
althought they do rebuild engines every other race.. but still.. even though they hurtle through gravel courses... ive never heard of faliure due to snapped / lodged belts?

I much prefer the look without and it is less weight and you can see the belt easier...

Leave it off you poof.
Whats the chances of a stone getting inbetween the belt anyway????
Let's face it a stone will only come from underneath and the cam cover does n't cover that bit anyway.
And if one does flick up inside at least you'll see it with no cover on

I know the Esccos come with a bottom shield that would protect from rocks from under the car. Then I would say you could run without one but if you don't have the bottom shield I would run a belt cover.
Dave - how did I KNOW you'd make some sort of deroggatory remark about my engine?
Pon, correction.. I made NO Derogatory (note the correct spelling.. one 'G' not two
) about your engineI meerly laughed at your tippex effort on the cam belt cover
which... lets be honest, is utterly gay and homo'fied

get your facts right boyzee

I admit the chance of it happening again are now reduced
You soooooo had to put the word derogatory into Word to make sure you'd corrected me correctly
You also shouldn't merely (note the correct spelling - "e" in the correct place
) laugh at something that wasn't done by me.
Deflect your unwanted criticisms elsewhere laddy

DITTO !!

Thats it.. blame it on the previous owner!
that ol' chestnut
Although they do look a bit crappy and you can't keep an eye on the belt condition and tension as easily, I personally wouldn't run a track car without one.
When you consider it's very possible (and I'm not having a go at your driving
) that the car could be bouncing through a gravel trap, throwing stones everywhere, including upwards into the engine bay, it seems to me a good idea to have one fitted.
7-8 grands worth of engine destroyed to make an engine bay look a bit better, isn't really worth the risk in my opinion.

I'm in 2 minds about cambelt covers on YB's. Yes if a stone flicks up from the front of the car it will save you, but what if the stone comes from behind (ohh matroon!). If you didn't have a cambelt cover that stone could have just escaped and hit the floor, it has nowhere to go if the cover is in place, OK it's not likely to happen but you never know, anyone who owns a cossie knows about the dreaded "curse" we all seem to have with things like this
A gravel trap would get stones everywhere and i don't think a cambelt cover will do much good on a YB engine as it doesn't totally enclose it. Also if you have an oil leak from the cam seals you may not catch it in time
If your going to get one Lee get a full length carbon one from Creative Carbon:

http://www.creativecarbon.com (think Mike sells these ones)
