I have lost the 'PLAY' disc but still have the 'INSTALL' disc....
can i install the game as normal but somehow alter the startup, so that the computer wont ask me to insert the 'PLAY' disc...?

I think its more than just asking for the disc, it needs it to run the game
like i have Hitman bloody money on my pc, if i click on the icon now it wont play until i put the cd in, even though ive installed the game which is 4299MB's!!

yes,
the install disc puts all the data onto your PC hard drive, so its physically loaded onto the computer already, all it needs the disc for when you double click the icon, is to make sure that you have the disc (i.e. bought the game yourself)
to stop people loading it onto their mates machines for free.
cos when i start my other games, like GTA San Andreas, it spins the disc up for about 30secs, and once i am into the game and about to start, the disc spins down and stops in the drive.
so its not actually reading any game data (data needed for the game to physcially run) just a piracy check basically
i have played cracked games in the past, where you have to move the .exe file into another location....
just cant remember the exact details, which is the problem

if its a no cd ya want i can supply it for you...just say the word
you are right about the copy protection glenis it is an old securom protection
but if IIRC,don't hold me to this...you will be missing some of the radio stations, because some of the sound files are on the play disc

www.megagames.com
and looke under PC FIXES
download a "no cd" file IIRC then you have to extract it into the GTA file directory and agree to any overwrites....
backup the "play" icon though...in case!
this will also make you're shortcuts obsolete so you'll have to create new

I seem to have all the audio on GTA....
I think it depends on the install...IE - Minimum.. then it would play audio off the cd...but if you install Full then it loads the tracks onto the PC??
I doubt you'll lose anything GTi
