Default Cozzie engine in an Escort MK4 Cabbie

Anyone done this? Is it possible to mount the cosworth engine so its FWD. What gearbox will mount up it? Just debating what to do in the future.

Well ive got one in my fiesta so ide imagine yes its possible but be ready to do alot of custom work to get it in.Mines is runnin standard box but the likes of cossie throttle body doesnt fit so av got some audi one also the turbo and inlet is turned upside down to set the bonnet shut and then there's the custom pipe work etc etc.Can be done just needs time and effort.

My conversion was done by AVA in scotland.Top guys who REALLY know there stuff

sounds good. You must be really chuffed. Its a lovely motor. You think it would be possible to RWD it if you wanted. I got a mint mk4 turbo shell i was thinking of doing with that.

p.s. How does the gearbox help with traction. Thanks

As you've seen RWD is possible and has been done many a time now.Always puts a smile on my face.My m8's dad had a famous green mk4 that was cossied.Mag featured and was always doing burnouts, doughnuts at all the shows.

The gearbox helps with traction as i'm planning on fitting a Quaife diff to help get the power down.

oh right i see. I never seen a rwd mk4 before but must have been done obviously. I got a 3i engine in the garage. You reckon that would be enough to get it sideways??? Would be good just for bit of fun.

Is the engine mounted in the boot or has it got a prop from the front. Thanks fella

Dont think its gonna have enough grunt to get you sideways m8 to be honest but could be corrected.Suppose if you mounted it in the boot then there could be more of a possabiltity to get the arse out but as i said i dont know.

No the cossie mk4's are all been front engine rear wheel drive as far as ive seen anyways but i dont know what pennywise is doing as his is spaceframe so he might end up mounting his in the rear but i highly doubt it to be honest as cossie engine has more than enough standard to get the arse out.

Hope that helps a bit m8

check out info on the rs1700t (fords mk3 rwd rally car) or do a google search for Gartrac or genesis as both do rwd conversions on the mk3's and 4's.
