Default How loud is 105db.

Right, risky question this, witht he Night crew signed in.

How loud is 105db. My exhaust is really quite loud, and I don't really wanna turn up at a Track day and get told to fook off, because it's too loud.

So how loud is 105db, is it mega loud? Are there any cars on here that exceed the limit?

You will struggle to exceed 105 in your Fiesta, on my 205 I have a group n rally exhaust with no middle box only a small back box. I also have no air filter to dampen the induction noise. I don't have any problems with noise anywhere, even Bedford!

My Toyota has a twin box exhaust system, standard diameter, with cat.

i was recently pulled over by VOSA for a random stop check. When that was measured the reading was 102db! obviously, the car failed (the max acceptable road limit was 90)

what shocked me was i didn't consider the car to be offensively noisey at all!

to get the car to pass i had to weld in silencers over twice the size of the original ones

I'll be honest mate, it's mega loud...

2.25" no middle box, no cat, 4-2-1 manifold and just a back box.

Don't know how you manage that one, my group n pounded round donno at 107db in the wet (rain dampens noise) before i got black flagged in my mi16

Dan, 95bd is roughly the level of noise that a Hammer Drill gives off when it in action.

So, you can probably imagine how loud you'd have to be to get to 105db???

I'd imagine you'd be fine with your exhaust

Well I've been given a fine before for the exhaust.

The copper obviously had very special ears, as he started it, revved it, and then claimed it was too loud. So he gave me a ticket for "Causing Unnessecary Noise."

Well really, it wasn't me causing the noise was it, it was the copper.

i can only think that the baffles were shagged on it. to make it pass i had to fit the centre section from a supra and have a new backbox made up with the biggest silencer that would physically fit under there.

It's mainly induction roar now. no bad thing as it's loads quieter on the motorway

See how much it goes down when you get in

Fat knacker

I think it's gonna be borderline mate, see if you can get it tested. Maybe have a removavble section put in so you can put a box in it if you need to?

I think I might have to. Tbh. I love the sound of it now, and it'll be a hard decision! but it's probably for the best.

sorry, didn't see this.

they did it from 1 metre from the tailpipe tip, 45degree offset. the car was then revved to approx 4500 RPM (although as my car has the standard clocks with no rev counter they had to guess and ended up just bouncing it off the limiter ) . they take the reading from that.

The noise test used at most tracks is the static test with the noise meter at 45 degrees to the exhaust exit at 0.5 metre and approx 4500-5000 rpm.

Noise when measured is very strange, 100db to 103 db is TWICE the volume, 100 to 106 is 4 TIMES the volume, and so on.

Any good "one off" exhaust maker will be able to test your car and advise you.
