Default FAO Tuning proffessionals/know it alls - Advice please.

Hello all ,

Need some inpartial advice on the following please.

Quite a while ago now, I did a job for "someone" and I want to know what
you think would be a fair price to charge for this work.

Wont say how much was charged just yet.....

Travelled to the "clients" home address at my expense, fit my wideband
AFR meter to an existing fitted exhaust boss. Test drive car over a range
of loads and speeds to check AFR is correct and check for detonation.

Things to consider...

Travel to and from client time and fuel.
(Fuel for test car paid for by car owner.)
Test drive period about 1 hour.
Total time from me leaving and getting back home about 4 hours.

Thanks in advance

How much is the AFR and how much markup do you have on it? Also did you state the the "client" that you would be charging for travel time. If it was me I would have agreed a price beforehand, if there was any doubt over the costs.

AJ,
Quite right but I dont/didnt work that way.
I would normally give a fixed price.

RS500/364,

For your information, it was done as promised.

S1,

Sorry should have made it clearer, the AFR meter was removed when the
tests were completed.

as said above, Ł150-Ł200, but you should have a better idea Simon as to what other tuners/people charge for this type of work than us lot.

Ginge,
You crack me up

In answer to your off topic question, send a mail to support@s8ecu.co.uk
and ask them.

S1,

They arent moaning about this work as I will always help out "friends"
where I am able to do so and never ask for a penny.

Just want them to know the real cost of things.

Home visits lol....more expenses then.

people find it hard to get a broken car to tuners to fix so you may have a thing going there.

have to the get prices sorted out though.

Its got to be your fuel charges and an hours labour at least.

Why couldnt the person bring it to you ?

If he was insisiting you took it to him then really you should get something for your travel time.

But it would be unfair for you to charge a full hourly rate for sitting in the car listening to the radio.... but in saying that its still half a day out of your life.

If this person is a 'mate' then Fuel charges plus a 'drink'

If the person is just a customer and you have no relationship with etc.. then 'Mate Rate' doesnt apply.

Ive never charged anyone a penny for doing the same, but then ive only ever done it for friends as a favour, so where as stu would value it at Ł200 i would value it at the price of a pint, or a returned favour, so it really depends a bit more in the circumstances.

Kind of hard to comment much without knowing more about the circumstances???

I very rarely charge for anything like that.

With mates I just make sure that how long i spend on their car is directly proportionate to how big the fried breakfast is that they buy me at the end of it!

I tuned a blokes bike carbs (on kit car) the other day. Took me three jet changes to get spot on. I didn't know hime so charged him Ł20. When it came in it wouldn't rev past 3k and he had spent loads of time trying to sort it himself. He was so chuffed after driving it up the road that gave me Ł40 instead of Ł20.

I'm not a pro so don't charge pro money.

Its good of her to help support these care in the community types really (such as the welsh)

You did a lovely job of polishing her shoes considering your obvious disadvantages though to be fair.

Just goes to show, even the welsh can be (eventually) taught to perform simple tasks.
