or will it break it???

i would just paint it m8 give it a very good clean with a power washer then paint it

 

I've seen it done before but it had to be stripped down first and then the casing(s) are cleaned/polished in the normal way. The powder used should be a low bake temp powder the same thats supposed to be used when powder coating alloy wheels.
