Heavy heart beats?
The last day my heart have started to beat heavily quite randomly.
Its not beating faster or anything its just pumps with more force. Dont know how to describe it. No pain or anything but its quite disturbing.
Any ideas about this? My aunt who works with hearts all day at the clinic told me it was nothing to worry about when I had this a couple of years ago. Never had it since but now its back and a bit worse as it keeps doing it. Its just a few pumps that feels harder then its back to normal. But it keeps doing this for the last 24 hours ( a few heavy beats every hour)
Will try and get hold of my aunt when she gets back but thought I would ask the PF lot if someone else had this?

Could it be something like a clogged artery? making the heart having to work harder now and again to pump the blood?
Would go get it checked out ASAP anyway, not something you want to leave!!

Palpitations are unpleasant sensations of irregular and/or forceful beating of the heart. In some patients with palpitations, no heart disease or abnormal heart rhythms can be found. Reasons for their palpitations are unknown. In others, palpitations result from abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias). Arrhythmias refer to heartbeats that are too slow, too rapid, irregular, or too early.
Surprised nobody else said palpitations, i get it sometimes, not very often though, oh and heartburn i bloody hate that

Probably palpations my aunt was thinking about, just not telling me what it was called. Think will have some test taken anyway just to make shure as I get quite worried when it happens.
Found this while doing a search on it...
"You have been experiencing palpitations, which is the sensation of being aware of your own heart beat."
"Some measures you can take to help decrease these episodes in addition to medication includes, stopping your intake of caffeine and other stimulants"
Also read that it might occur more often if you dont sleep enough.
Came back to work this week after some time off and its been quite busy and I had too little sleep. Also been drinking quite a lot of tea and pepsi, someting I dont usually do. Will cut that out, have some proper sleep and see what happens.

pretty freaky when it happens and you don't know what it is.. definitely dump the caffeine and if it's persistent for extended periods (as mine was at one time, making it difficult to relax or concentrate on anything else
) try some brisk exercise, even run up and down the stairs a few times - this forces the heart back into a regular beat pattern and is often enough to get everything back even again. It is caused by the heartbeat being triggered extra times early in the cycle, which in itself disrupts the blood flow to a degree and if it continues for extended periods can cause light headedness and tiredness as a result of the reduced blood flow.
Not a "dangerous" condition, but uncomfortable and unnerving all the same.

I had this a few years back my prognosis was wolf parkinson white syndrome where i had an extra electrical circuit in my heart, rushed into A E quite a few times with a rate of 240 bpm
Quick shot of Adensin and hope for the best. Have now had an op called the ablation where they feed a electrode in your groin and float it up into the heart in a vein?arterty? and burn away the circuit, solved my problem
Should not worry just take less stimulants on board ie caffine sugar etc
Have fun PaulT

Not shure if dare to to try rickm's tip about running in the stares, I might end up with a heart attack.
Took a long walk today and felt quite tired after a while but that wore off and when I got back home it felt great.
Started to feel it now as im typing again but prior to that its been away for several hours.
