after that lot your looking at major headwork etc. maybe throttle bodies or a turbo conversion with 5th injector

Carbs or Tb's are your only option really.

Personally I'd by a 2l 16v in it, good fuel economy, fast and reliable.

Carbs are very cool and sound but the fuel bill will cripple you.

Here my old 1.6:

16v redtop is really the best conversion for your money. You can pic an engine up for next to nowt these days and it dont cost £500 for shafts and hubs............infact you could probably do the full conversion for that if you done it yourself. As for the grip probs, using an f20 i'd jusy band a quaffie diff in there, job sorted. If you dont want to fork out for a diff then equal lenght shafts and decent tyres.
My old nova(LET) ran 250@wheels and grip wasnt that much of an issue tbh, i think alot of people just dont spend the little extra that makes all the difference. However with fwd there comes a point where its just beyond a joke but i dont think you'll get anywhere near tht with N/A.

Have to agree with RS1 on that,

Shafts are peaunts, I just made a set up with new inner and outer joints for £150, mounts are £50 and all you need then is some minor skill with a welder or a mate that can help.

Quaife is mandatory IMO or equal length shafts but I've never tried those but been told they do work as people claim.

Your talking much less than a grand to 16v that and then you have 150bhp all the time with as I said good mpg and reliability

Rhys-

I'm quite sure my car from the fresh build didn't cost over 4k and it wasn't a bad motor tbh

Seam welded shell re panelled and full resprayed
Polycarb windows
40k xe engine and F18 box with Quaife LSD
Solid mounts, GTE shafts, new cv's and kwik rak
16" Compomotive Mo's
Coilovers with concentric alloy mounts
Reyland Brake conversion
Sparco buckets and harnesses
WON nitrous kit

8.55 lap of the ring
13.051 1/4 mile

cheap considering it was 100% reliable, very quick for a stock engine and excellent mpg.
