ebay state your not allowed to add paypal fees to the winning bids, there your fees to pay, they seemed to have clamped down on this quite a bit these days

As Fil says..if you want to cover your fees..make sure the start price/buy it now or whatever is 3.4% more than you want for the item..as you can't charge people any more than the auction finishes at + postage

If you're confused about the postage/item price..basically you are charged on whatever they pay you..so say I buy something for Ł90 + Ł10 postage..I'll paypal you Ł100...you'll then have 3.4% taken from that Ł100..so takes a % from whatever you are paid..item price/postage

Hope this helps!

i expect people will bump there posrage and packing up to compensate

Exactly what people do...but as long as people can see the total they will pay when they bid..that's all ebay is bothered about..but if postage is extortionate people don't tend to bid..I certainly don't anyway.

It is not the straight forward

If someones pays you through Paypal using a credit card or bank account transfer then you will pay a % which varies acording on the amount but averages out at about 4%.

However if someone pays you from the balance they already have in their Paypal account then you do not get charged any %.

So it always worth checking with the winning bidder how they are paying if it is a significant amount.

And loads of sellers especially those in Europe still apply 4% premium on purchases, they just hide the small print at the bottom of the page with their postage rates

bit of a con really, as you pay for placing the advert, then they charge you again for selling it, by charging you 3.4% max of the winning bid
