Default Is this a swirl pot?

Morning gents,

I'm trying to sell my car at the moment (Doo's old S2) and some lads came yesterday to look at it (turned out to be timewasters grrrrrrr!) and asked what this part is (circled in red)...

The pipe at the back isn't connected to anything and has vapour coming out when the engine is hot - is that normal?

Cheers,
Bryn.

Cheers guys.

So the top pipe off the breather going backwards - what should it be attached to? Car idles fine after about 30 seconds.

Cheers,
Bryn.

It's running shit because the breather isn't plumbed in. K-Jet required it to be reconnected to the inlet or the car won't run.

Just think, if you'd known that, you could have offered a reduced price and got yourself a bargain...

And lets face it, it's a mint car!

I can't understand why people have so much hassle with the cold start valve on the RST. I've never had any problems with cold starting on MFi. Must be lucky I guess.

To be fair time wasters was a bit harsh, they did seem genuinely interested but I had already answered about 30 emails of questions from them and sent them photos of all the rust on the car (of which there is not a lot!). I told him repeatedly to come on here and ask about the car because it had been owned by people on here and the guy who built the engine posts on here - I thought it'd be the first thing he did before driving all the way from London. What annoyed me was that they ragged the bollocks off it on the test drive even though I'd explained it hadn't been used for 5 months and only just been put back together, then said they'd go and think about and come back later. Never heard a thing after that despite waiting in for 2 hours.

The front brakes were making a horrible noise which I haven't investigated yet but other than that I would like to know what else was wrong with it? I made it clear its an XR3i shell - the car is on ebay and its in bold letters in the description so they knew that already.

I think they were expecting a 16 year old Escort with a ZVH engine and great spec in perfect showroom condition for Ł3500 which is obviously not going to happen. Its a good car for the money though as I'm sure the people on here who've owned or seen it will know.

If anyone else wants to come and see and drive it, please be my guest, I have nothing to hide.

Cheers,
Bryn.

But you still haven't told us what was wrong with the car?
Its obviously not going to drive like a standard RST as its got coilovers and large wheels. Plus we were doing about 90mph down a bumpy country road!! But how it drives is purely subjective anyway.

I haven't misrepresented the car at all and I wasn't dishonest with you in any way. I am genuinely sorry to hear that you think you wasted your time, but I will not have my reputation compromised by your unfounded comments.

If you tell us all whats wrong with the car I will go outside now and take photos of each part you mention and post them up here - can't say fairer than that?

I have done around 200 miles since I got the car in April, and its been in a covered garage so it hasn't changed since it was last owned by a passionford member. I hope one of its previous owners will be along shortly to comment on your 'banger' remark.

Cheers,
Bryn.

How can u sell me the car with the brakes making the discusting noise. was the disc cracked? ive got coilovers on mine to and mine dont feel like that. there were soooooooooo many noises coming from the car (too many rattles here and there) the gears wudnt even go into the correct gear. no receipt for the turbo, which is one of the biggest things imo. no v5. i can carry on all day. ALSO u have the nerve of selling that car for Ł3500.

I didn't sell you the car!

But I agree the noise from the front brakes was awful, I would have knocked money off for that because I wasn't aware of it before you came.

I told you repeatedly before you came that I did not have a receipt for the turbo and if you had read the ebay description properly you would know that I didn't have the V5 either. I do have the green slip though as you know. There is nothing wrong with the gearbox as you know, although you did appear to select 5th instead of 3rd quite often. It comes with a spare rebuilt gearbox anyway, not that it is needed. Most of the noises were caused by you doing 90mph down a bumpy country road with someone in the back causing the wheels to rub on the arches and the exhaust to ground on the road!!

Please do carry on all day, I would like the opportunity to respond to your opinions on the car.

Cheers,
Bryn.

Well there you go, a conclusive list of problems with the car that make it 'shit on wheels'

Unfortunately its my word against his but if someone else comes to see it and thinks the same then I'll accept that its a pile of shit and break it for parts. Personally I'd guess his problem with the way it drives is because he probably has a 1.6 which may have similar power but this engine has nearly 250lb/ft of torque which is a lot to put through that chassis.

Like I said I am genuinely sorry that you think you wasted your time, but if I was just like any other car dealer trying to make a quick buck why would I have just spent nearly Ł1k having the head modded and compression sorted so its reliable? Otherwise I'd have just had another Felpro gasket slapped in and left the CR only for it to go bang on its new owner a few miles later. Instead I sent it to Ian Howell and had it done properly!

Anyway, like I said I have nothing to hide but I am the first to admit that I don't know much about RST's. However I believe this is a decent car, its not been mangled in an accident, its not rotting inside out, it doesn't have pools of oil or water underneath it.

Cheers,
Bryn.

Well, as most people on here know the bloke who built that car, it may be a bit tired but shit on wheels is a bit unfair.

Tell him whats wrong with it, so he can sort it for the sale he intends to make.

You serious?? Unless you personally know the car you can't possibly comment! It has changed hands loads of times since Doo sold it! [Seems to be have been up for sale every 6 months for the last 3 years!]

Fair play to the current owner though because from your replies you seem genuine to me! I wouldn't be put off about coming to view the car if I was in the market for one!

I have seen the car when it was owned by Doo and also by its next owner in Wakefield....I haven't seen it recently which is why I haven't commented on its condition

Your the one who was saying it looks good from in pictures which were taken 3 years ago and about 5 owners less Not exactly relevant

Sorry that sounds a little argumentative and its not meant to be.

Anyway good luck with the sale.....if its still in good nick you should have no problem selling it to someone else

looks a minter from the pics, personally it would`nt bother me if it was a 3i in a previous life, alot of work and money has gone into that car, if i saw it and liked it i would have bought it, the problems with the brakes can be easily sorted and it seems to me u missed a good oportunity to get it abit cheaper
