Default Tours in America, Anyone done one ??

We planning out holiday for next year already LOL

We want to do a tour in America, got a few brochures etc and had a bit look thru them.

I think the place that has come out on top is LA

Wondered if anyone had done a tour for 2 weeks or so and what they thought of it ?

MY BRO SPENT 5 WEEKS TOURING AMERICA FROM NEW YORK TO CHICAGO THEN ENDED UP IN LA VIA SAN FRAN.
HE REALLY ENJOYED IT. I COULD PASS YOU ON HIS EMAIL ADDRESS IF YOU WANT TO FIND OUT MORE. HIS BEST PLACE WAS CHICAGO. REASONS BEING: FRIENDLY PEOPLE, GREAT ATMOSPHERE, WEATHER, EASY TO GET ROUND ETC. HE DIDN'T LIKE LA COS IT WAS VERY MULTI-CULTURAL ( VERY ) AND ALL THE GHETTOS THEY WENT THROUGH. BUT I AM SURE PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS

HOPE THIS HELPS A BIT.

Cheers

Will have to look at some specialist website and see what they have to offer

Theres one on Kouni's (sp) website that does LA, Las Vegas, San Fransisco, Gran canyon and a few other places on the way.

Its a shame we can only get 2 weeks to do it in.

My brother flies out tomorrow morning to do exactly that.

Lands in LA, then San Diego, Vegas, San Francisco......

I've planned the sporting events he wants to see and Vegas for him, but there's so much to see, it nearly isn't long enough!

We just hired a motorbike for a couple of days and fucked off in random directions on it for 10 hours at a time and then did the same again in a car.

Not touring holiday but enough to know that america is a dead easy place to drive around so if was going to go there touring i certainly would do it on bike or in a car rather than in a coach or whatever.

I can highly recommend Kuoni holidays & tours, very good value for money for the standard of service you get. They leave you wanting for nothing.

I don't if this is any use but there is a book most library's stock called Road Trip USA. It contains loads of advice that may be useful.

Would love to do the same hope you get sorted

I have been to florida twice for 2 weeks, california for 2 weeks and vegas for two weeks. California was brilliant and it would take you 3 months to see it all proper. Vegas is the greatest place on earth and makes everywhere else shite by comparision.

Having recently visited America for the first time (New York City) and absolutely loving it, I am dying to go back there and see more of the US, probably along the lines of LA, San Fransisco, Chicago, Vegas, but also the more southern states; Georgia (Atlanta) and Texas, and I would love to get out to Nashville in Tennesse, and also Tampa Bay, Florida

Can't afford all that in one hit tho

Personally I wouldnt bother with a tour. My brother spent 5 weeks there last year on his own. Researched on the net and went for it. He is now doing Europe as I type and is in Stokholm. I couldnt imagine anything worse than being sat with bus or plane loads of the same people for 2 weeks.

Research it, ask for info, decide on whats best for you, book it, do it.

We did 18 days staring from Washington DC and driving up the eastern seaboard as far as Boston, taking in Philadelphia, New York etc on the way.
Then we went west to Buffalo before turning back to Niagra Falls and crossing into Canada. Spent a night at Lake Elizabeth (in the same Hotel as the about-to-be-elected Canadian Premier, Jean Chretien) before moving on to Toronto.
From there we continued west to Sarnia where we hooked up for a few days with some old friends who had emigrated there, before crossing back into the US and going to Detroit to see all the US Automaker HQs, the mansions, and the Henry Ford Museum at Dearborne which is highly recommended.

Dead easy to drive around over there: road speeds are relatively low, and the traffic flows much better - perhaps because you can overtake on either side so most folks keep their wits about them!

Just be aware that car hire isn't as cheap as it is in Florida, and you need to make sure the rental company allows you to take their car across state lines.

Still want to go and see some of the West coast, so let us all know how you get on.

Going to LA in March to stay with my mate for 2 weeks who now lives there. Stayed with him when he lived in Key West last year and that was excellent.

Never been to LA but looking forward to it.

regards
