I'm sure I remember reading about very similar problems on here in the past, so I'm hopeful that someone can give me some likely cuplrit(s) to save me some time trying to fix it. I've tried the search function, but it didn't turn up anything useful
I was out in my car last night, and intermittently when it comes on boost it basically dies. At the same time, the rev counter shoots past 7000rpm
I'm thinking CPS or Phase Sensor - surely it's got to be related to the ECU's speed calculations?
Can anyone help?
Neil.

from memory neil it was related to ignition amp and or wiring specially the earths(something about multiple triggers), bulkhead multi plugs, then look at the crank and phase sensor.

As you originaly suspected its sounds like a classic phase sensor or crank
sensor issue to me.
Check the phase sensor inside the distributor to see if the wires inside
have decayed and are shorting out either with each other or
against the dizzi side wall - Very common.
Other wise, I would change the crank sensor first.

My best pals wont rev past 2000rpm and dies after the rev counter has a wee dance.
Changed the map sensor, phase sensor, plugs leads everything we can think of and still no luck so going to AVA to see what they think
