My sister has just come out.
That right, down the pub last night on my 5th pint (obviously thought it was a sutable time to break the news to me) and she comes up and says
"Awww, my brother Stu. Give me a hug."
Me being me and not used to public displays of affection from my sister just thought it was her being drunk.
"Stu, I have something to tell you, but you can't tell mum or dad. Promise me."
"Yeah ok, fine, <hic>" I slured back.
"I'm a lesbian, and this is my girlfriend."
Now that I aint pissed its kinda sinking in. I know its her choice and all, but it worrying cus my rents are known homophobes.....
I'm a wrong in just letting it roll past me and carry on? do I say something? do I not say something? I'm so very confused...

what can you do? nothing is the answer. she's your sister, go off and one and you may just lose her as a friend and as a sister.
so what if the rents are homophobes your sister aint hurting any one, live and let live matey...she's happy and you should be happy for her.

The ONLY bad thing I can see about this is that she is your sister and can't watch!!
Just keep it to yourself (don't tell your parents if they are homophobic and obviously because she made you promise not to tell them) and just carry on as if she never told you. Family are always family and not worth falling out with (unless its something really really bad...unlike this situation which is pretty trivial and hardly worth bothering about).
Is she fit? Ask her if I can watch?

Dude, I think one of my sisters is allergic to the pork batons as well, maybe if they hooked up we could be bruvvers or something....
I agree with what was said above, you should be chuffed she trusts you, parents are amazingly resilient and forgiving. When I think of some of the Sh!t I've done. My ma never batted an eyelid that day she walked in on me wearing her wedding dress and makeup.

A friend of mine came out a couple of years ago (an ex!
) and she was astounded at how well EVERYONE took the news. She's never been happier and wishes she'd done it sooner.
Parents will get used to the idea.
Good on her!

If its true though, its meant to be genetic so I suppose theres nothing you an do about it. Personally Im not so sure it is. (And bear in mind I used to be very close friends with a les)
MadMac - I've been there. My sister came out about 7 years ago, then a while later told my parents. My mum went totally ballistic, practically kicked her out - didn't take long at all for my mum to realise that it's life, you have to deal with it, she accepted my sister's decision and apologised. Since then all has been sweet - my sister's girlfriends are welcome, and my mum even goes to Pride each year!
What pisses me off so, SO much about the situation is my sister is never without an amazing looking girl or two trailing in her wake! Makes me sick knowing that she can pick 'em up at a whim (my sis is very pretty) and even if they were straight I'd never have a hope in hell!
Best of luck with it mate, even the most emphatic homophobes can U-turn if it's their own child in question.

i remember when i "came out", parents were definately a bit on the homophobic side, but they were sorted with it - never battered and eyelid and mum had the cheek to say "i thought u might be, never saw one of your girlfriends" lol.
ahh well - such as life
cant change who you are no matter how hard you try - your parents will settle to the idea eventually, mine did, and am still at home with em untill i can move out when i hit 25 and start earning megabucks :P
