Default complete rear quarter replacment

has anyone got a pic of a brand new Gen Ford rear quarter? Want to see how much you get with the panel ie if it is as original apart from that it obviously needs butt welding at the sill.
Cheers guys
Danny

rear arch is rsuting and panel has a few kinks in. Is actually quicker and easier to replace whole rear quarter than to just pop a repair arch in(plus i hate arch repair panels )

ı agree a rear panel ıs better to replace as you know the whole thıng wıll be rust free and also not cut and shut wıth the old panel to rust ın X amount of tıme where ıt ıs joıned..

I normally do, have a welder and a spot welder and certainly know how to use them(im an ex-MK2 Escort owner, you have to know how to weld and do bodywork ) all depends what mood im in, may well just pack it off to a bodyshop and get them to do it, fed up of working on the dam thing at the mo

Mine needs an arch, but if i can get hold of a full quarter il replace the full thing!

Jano U sed the new arch will rust where it meets the old,is this todo with the welding?Does it do something to the metal which makes it more likely to rust? And is there anyway to help prevent it ie;special paints/primers?

Thanks shane!

The reason ıs that when you joın two bıts of metal the welds wıll always have bare metal ınbetween. So no matter what you do the metal wıll rust ın the end causıng ıt to show through the paınt etc..

Even ıf you seam seal ıt etc. The rust wıll come through. Just down to how long and how bad.

If you were to replace the full panel then, whats the diffrence in doing this and just the arch replacement? Both need welding, so how does fitting the full panel help prevent rust happening, would'nt this go the same way where its joined??? Sorry, i know little when it comes to welding/bodywork.

Its just that i'm looking at my o/s rear quater, took the bodykit off today and it looks like someones had a go at it before and bent all the arch underneath. Its started rusting quite badly which is impossible to stop other than removing, so i'm looking at having the full panel replaced.

The point is that if you join the panel, where its joined to start with. The chances of it showing when it starts to rust is lower than if you have a panel joined right in sight. i.e on the arch.

There is no diff, it will still rust in the end. But if you have a whole rear replaced you can seal it up better.

Don't really agree with that.....each method could rust at the joint just as quickly it all depneds on access to the rear of the weld to seal it up from air/water ingress. There is no reason why corrosion should ever come back if the repair is done properly!!

I'm assuming everybody is talking about but welding rather than lapping?

Personally I would only repair the area which needs it! No point in replacing good original metal!!
