How do I Reset My ECU?

My ECU reqs resetting but not sure how to do it and what i should be doing after to get it to operate properly.

The ECU type is EEC IV and it's on an XR2i 1.6 8v

unplug the ecu or disconnect the battery for an hour or so

Then take it for a drive, start slowly building up the rev range, go through the gears and different driving styles.
