When i start the car up i here the tappets for the first couple of seconds so i let it warm up to temperature and then give it some. Ive started to hear a tapping noise when on full boost at top end.

Is this oil starvation and require a new oil pump or is it something more serious. Its only at top end tho. through the rest of the rev range its fine

 

what sort of rpm?

 

starts from about 5500 onwards

 

It's almost cetainly one of the lifters pumping up. Quite common. How old are they and your cam, and what oil is it running?

 

CAm is about six months old with all the lifters etc.... oil is i month old shell helix

 

What grade is the Helix?

Six months is old for a CVH cam unfortnetly

When does the noise stop?

 

There is no noise until 5500 revs and thats when it starts if i drive it under 5500 rpm then its fine.

Damn shame about the cam

does it stop as soon as u go back below 5.5k?
