Default little dilemma--what would you do?

right then this may sound stupid.

ive got my rs500 to virtually just how i originally wanted it to be and absolutely love the power it now has.
problem is its an rs500.
which means it is one of about half of the original ones left.
i want to enjoy the power it has on trackdays and on the road but if i trash it,its another rs500(and a lot of money)gone.
also went in it to national day today with the family and the car is now absolutely shit high inside-doesnt really bother me that much but to keep up values, you cant help but try to keep things like the trim in good condition.

what do i do?
keep the rs500 and just use it how i want to and if i wreck it-so what!

take all the big spec stuff off the car,put the original standard engine back in etc and sell it.then put all the big power stuff on a sapphire and thrash the fucker and not have to worry as much about stone chips/dings/kids in the back!

sell the rs500 as it is with all the big spec stuff (circa 500 bhp!) and start all over again

i like owning a big power rs500 and like using it too.put 4000 miles on it this year!
but i also think i may be able to live with having a big power sapph, and some money back in the bank.

its a pain cos i know i could have a just as quick sapphy for a lot less money, but i may regret it if i sell the rs500

what would you do?

the RS500 would sell for about the same money standard as 500bhp wouldnt it??

so keep hold of the crazy engine, sell the 500 as an original-ish car
and then put the big power in a saph or something,
And have a few
grand left for some other parts!

you enjoy the power and dont worry So much about trashing a 15k car!

I would use the RS500 personally and sell when you get bored.

Even if you trash it, you can then break it and still get silly money for most of the bits.

I was thinking, keep the 500 as you clearly like the car, but put it back to original spec

buy a 2wd sapph and put all the goodies on that, kick its hole in and relax

mmmmmmmmmmm,

i couldnt keep the rs500 as a standard ish car as i wouldnt enjoy it/wouldnt drive it.i only want one toy!

im so tempted to advertise it and see what happens.

the car is running really well now-really picks its feet up!

i like the thought of a flint grey sapph 2wd with black 18" comps, morettes, and my engine etc in the car..................................

but then i look at the rs500 and it looks awesome and really moody.

if i sell it,ill never buy another one due to price increases etc.

maybe ill just sleep on it or see if the rs500 registrar comes through with this rs500 group thrash and at least keep it till then

decisions/decisions

is a hard decision Jay.

could you just not get a 3 door and put the 500 kit on it,look the same then.

it will kill you if you sell the 500 and then seeing them, you will be kicking yourself that you sold it.

why not get good track cover that will cover you for everything.

Keep it mate

I have a same spec 500 and use it!

You can use the car hard as long as you look after it, and when/if you wanna sell, it really won't affect the price tbh.

I felt the same as you at first, but its so good having a genuine 500 with a genuine 500+bhp.

The car was built for one thing--to anhilate all opposition on the track/roads

I always get stupid comments from people saying I am crazy for bringing out the car in poor weather and for using it hard, but its very well cared for and I always service/fiz any problems without delay.

yes ryan,i sometimes wish i had thought long and hard about it buy the car was the right money and i really vcouldnt say no.

original plan was to keep it as it was (virtually standard) and just freshen it up.
then i got offered my old big power sapph back as it had been smashed up so putting that engine in it was toooooo tempting.then of course it spiralled from there to where it is now.

used to have a really nice moonstone 3 door-sometimes wish i had just kept that

i know its a nice dilemma to have and it would be nice to just put the rs500 to one side and build something else but
a) havent got the money to do that
b) i can only drive 1 car at a time and will always choose my favourite one-whichever it was!

the offer is there if you want to do a joint project for track only, that way you can have something to thrash on a track and keep the 500 and it would only cost 50%

I was thinking reliable 280ish bhp stripped and caged 2wd saff to learn in

After looking and hearing that merc on track, any ex-touring cars about

It sounds like you are worrying too much and being a bit precious about it to really enjoy it. Its a Cat D already isn't it so I don't think its ever going to be worth big money I'm afraid mate.

It must be mentally fast right now after Stus mapped it so if you are not happy with it now you never will be.

As stu said, get something you enjoy

I know someone with an itchy trigger finger who may be on the verge of breaking a mint 3 door (not 500) in black but it has the 500 kit on it. Far be it from me to get you to tempt him to break it but if he had the shell sold he might do it. He has owned the car for a long time and is getting bored with it as he is getting old. !!!! lol

This may be the very thing for you, RS500 looks with a 500bhp engine in a useable car.

yes the car is cat d listed and will never be worth as much as the good ones that arent listed, but its still worth a fair bit - at least 12k with its original engine back in,which i actually think is a lot of money!
it was valued at more than that by the registrar.

regardless of its history, its still an rs500,which makes it a rare car-which is my dilemma

by the way, just cos its cat d it doesnt mean its a piece of shit ! its actually a nice car.
