I have seen cars with this on and wonder if its just for show or is it actually performance enhancing?

I asked a biker friend the same question b4, and whether or not its true i dont know but its to change the direction of speed laser. we all know the laser is usually pointed towards number plate area on a car, the cd is supposedly meant to throw the laser beam off its return path back to the trap...hence not registering a speed.

 

Or in my case a 78

I always thought the CD poking through the bumper was an early warning system for other road users, pointing out the driver knows nothing about cars, speed traps or life?
