Default Computers - Alcohol 120%

Right, am I right into thinking that you can burn images into a folder on ur hard drive rather than onto a cd?

if so...how?!

cheers

yep alcohol 120 is a v usefull tool,

you download a image of a cd/dvd and rather than using a disc to burn it, you can use alcohol to 'mount' the image as a virtual drive - so in 'My computer' it appears as another CD or DVD drive and works just the same.

ive got 3 vitual mapped drives with it - (you can have as many as you want)

you use the image finder tool , then right click and ' mount image'

you wonder how you ever did without it once you get the hang of it

eddited to add - you dont actually burn them to a folder - it actually reads the files on teh fly - once an image is mounted (literally 2 seconds) it stays as a drive letter until you click 'eject'

Be careful if this one on a games machine as i have found quite a few games now wont work if they detect cd imaging software. Even if you uninstall it it must leave a trace in the registry as they still dont work.

Nothing more anoying than buying orginal games only to find you have to crack them to get em to work

Can I ask why you would want to do this ??

Is it because you don't have a cd burner & want t okeep a 'hard' copy of some pics so if your computer crashes you will still have these files ??

why = becasue it saves you actually having to burn it to a disc before you can use it - yes you can still burn it to adisc, but if you find it doesnt work for whatever reason its too late once you have burnt it....

and its much quicker having the image running from the HDD rather than the CD or DVD drive

If it's an image (I take it by that you purely mean a picture/photo?) then why wouldn't it burn onto the disc properly and why would the speed it takes to open be much of an issue?

no no no,

not a picture/image

an electronic image of the disc, imagine the whole dvd/cd disc has been read onto your hard disc and stored as a single file that is 4.7gb ot 700mb respectively, alcohol can read this single file (image) as treat it as a virtual disc,

if you dont download a lot of big stuff you may not get the point of it - but once you have lots and lots of files that are downloaded and are on .ISO or nero images etc it become VERY useful as you dont need to keep loading discs into your machine - if you have a huuge hard disc it makes sense to keep image files of them on there Rather than using the actual cd/dvd each time
