After seeing Jeremy Clarkson drive it in his old escort cossie on his "car years" program, and him saying it was one of his all time favourite roads, i've decided i'm going to try it for myself.
So has anyone driven this road and can offer any tips or advice as such?

It's an un-named road from Thwaite to Hawes.
It's not a particularly difficult or technical road, just watch the drop off the side - a mistake doesn't bear thinking about!

Neil.

oh, people who have particularly (sp) low front ends/ splitters etc, be warned, chances are if you go hard enough you may rip off/damage your bumper etc as i managed to catch the rubber "splitter" thing on my standard 325Ci on one particular corner and I wasnt going THAT mad

although, I found it a nightmare to find from Hawes and ended up in "Hardraw" and followed the signs to "Muker" via the buttertubs

the pass its self is only like 5 miles long but well worth doing a few times
oh and gracey, if your E30 has adjustable dampers.... set em up softly, otherwise you'll end up all over the place as its rather bumpy at 80mph+ even on standard BMW springs/dampers

Rob - they are pretty soft, yet firm at the same time
Looks like we may have to have a PF visit to the Buttertubs pass - drive it a couple of times, and find a nice pub for lunch

yeah i'd be up for that and theres loads of pubs around too
just to add, theres only one bit thats long enough to gain a bit of speed but not too much otherwise you'll WRC' it and jump over the crests

We went up there last week in a Honda S2000
too many sheep, there was one at the side of the road that
had been hit! sheep 0 car 1.
