Default Turbo Glowing Orange

Anyone know why

Just come back from southend come off the slip road onto the A127 put my foot down and the car felt a bit sluggish pulled in to the petrol station for some fuel and could see steam from the bonnet vents so i openned the bonnet and the turbo was glowing orange

All i have done was take the dump valve off today as the car kept cutting out which it hasnt done yet since the dump valve has been removed.

Anyone got any idea's why the turbo is glowing orange?? is this ok?? what will stop it happening??

turbo's getting to hot, does the compressor whell spin freely in it? sounds like its oil feed may be blocked to it or somthing, havnt disturbed any of the pipes?

if your givin it stick then it'll glow orange/white, usually running too much ignition advance will make this happen prematurely! (i.e. get really hot really quick)

check oil and water feeds, maybe the turbo is on its way out and the compressor is touching the housing?

They will glow if u've bin givin it a lot of stick, especially if u've bin loadin it up in the higher gears on a motorway or somethin, so much heat bein generated!!! Just try and make sure u give it a run down period before swtichin the car off!

Too little ignition advance, wrong timed cam, or lean mixture will usually be the reasons for too hot exhaust temperatures.
