as said turn all electrics on in the car and then test the voltage, anything less than 12.volts is bad, should be around 13v ideally but not always

or you could just start the car then take a wire from the blue connection on the alt and touch the posative on the battery and that will turn on the alt and see if that sorts it

if you got no bat light on the dash then tbh thats the problem as that coninues the circuit for the alt to turn on mate

check stupid things first - make sure the dash warning light and blue wire as stated is ok. You can check by earthing the blue wire at the alternator end with the ignition on, that should light the charging warning light.

yes, take it off the alt and touch it ot the engine earth somewhere ( ie the block) and the light should turn on with the ignition is on, if not then check the blub then look for breaks

sorted

sounds like that tbh

this means the lamp and blue wire are OK so the problem lies at the alternator:

1, Brushes are worn out
2, Regulator/diodes broken
3, Alternator body not earthed

if it's 1, or 2, then you're best just changing the alternator (no offence, but from the questions you are asking it's unlikely you will be repairing the internals..?)
3, is fairly unlikely but may be worth checking continuity from the engine block to alternator body.

You shouldn't. On a Cossie, oil changes should be carried out every 6000 miles or 12 months, which ever occours first. Later cars went onto 10k/12 month intervals.

Plus he said it has lasted a year SO FAR! Not that it has failed again after a year!
