can you tell where rods are from by the markings on them?

can you tell where rods are from by the markings on them?
i pick up a block yesterday, the guy assured me that it was a silver top and so was the crank, rods and pistons.
but is there anyone of checking?
i wont be using the pistons so mainly worried about the block and rods.
