Losing a pet is always hard as they give you 100% unrequited love and trust.
This is sad, but I like to think it could be true....
The Rainbow Bridge
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colours. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm Spring weather. The old frail animals are young again. They play all day with each other. There is only one thing missing, they are not with their special person who loved them so much on Earth.
Each day they all run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears rise up! The eyes are staring! Then suddenly, this one runs from the group! You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her into your arms and you both embrace. Your face is licked again and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separate

Really and truly sorry to read this Alex. Its so incredibly hard because you loved each other so much mate.
One of the few things in life i dread on an almost daily basis is losing suzie my staffy cross.
Chin up pal, it will get easier mate, but your sad for a good reason, and the dog will have felt that reason (love) all her life, and thats a good thing.
Lynne, that made me cry.

Oh what a cutie. Paws inwards like every spaniel I've ever met lol. Ours had cancer too. He held out for Christmas (and all of his wrapped pressies as per) and passed away on Dec 27th. So sad.
its hard isnt it mate, i just lost an animal closest to me, but my girlfried brought me a cute fluffy bunny rabbit called COSSIE to make it a bit easier!
Its just like loosing a loved one, especially if its man's best friend

Sorry to hear it alex, we lost a cat a few years ago and she still is very much in our thoughts.
Like Stu, we have an older cat and while she's still full of life, I dread the day when that will end.
The best thing to do, is remember the good times you've had, and the bad/rough ones you may have had. It will be tough at first, but eventually, it will bring a smile to your face rather than sorrow, and that will feel good

Sorry to hear it mate. I have been through it twice and I always take it worse than the wife however I am usually the strong one but when it comes to my dogs I find it very hard.
What everyone says is correct, it does get easier but I know you will never forget her as I do not forget mine. It is the hardest thing a dog owner can go through however it will never stop me owning one.
Take care
Graham.

I had mine 14 years from when I was a lad, I always said if it was illness or putting to sleep then I wanted to be with him at the end, took him to the vets for them to have a look at a lump in his throat, got a phone call at home telling me they couldnt bring him round from the anesthetic and he'd gone, worst day of my life without a doubt.
Thats made me cry lynne and I'm not affraid to admit it

all im getting at, is when someone is upset and in mourning the last thing they really need is some cock and bull about the dog waiting for them on a rainbow. i mean ffs what a load of trash, yes it would be nice to believe but come on!
all it achieves is making the poor guy cry even more, even people that havent lost a dog for 5 years are now crying.
