Default Sparkplugs

Just after some advice on which sparkplugs to fit, I've just checked the standard plugs that are in and they are showing signs of overheating, spec is:

1.6CVH EFi Turbo, CVH35 cam, 15 psi.

It looks like I need a hotter grade plug but how do I work out what plug to buy?

Cheers,
Dave

Are they a plug I'm likely to be able to get from a local motor factors?

The insulator is very white, which I thought was an indicator the plug was overheating?

You are right

Now you have to find out why it is overheating. The reason for this will 99& be because the car is running lean. New spark plugs won't help this. You need to get the mixture checked out.

I'm assuming it's because I'm running twice as much boost on standard plugs?

The car has recently been setup by MSD so I would hope the mixture was ok.

yes, i would think it is. It depends when you are checking them. after a long run on cruise? After a ragging? etc etc.

You need a colder grade plug not hotter.
I usually play with the Motocraft plugs 901 (091) is the hotter option for winter use and the 701 (071) is the colder one for summer/more boost. Both are ridiculously cheap.

Of course it's always good to check the fuelling first.

Could someone give me the full part code for the Motocraft 071's as I've been to get some today and Ford say that 071 isn't a vaild motocraft part code?

Cheers.

How helpless are they. It's an official ERST plug.

Finis: 1120834 (AGPS071C)
Finis: 5099858 (AGPR 901)

Both 3.55e each when I last got some, so 2£ something.
