Replacing turbo unit
Ok as you can see from another of my threads my car is still smoking like the Marlboro man so gonna try another turbo(if any one has one) First of all Ive looked at it and all Ican see on the housing is air research not if its a t2 or t3, how do I know? Im led to believe its a t3 so how hard are they to change? I have a warranty for this one so will be sending it back to get repaired as its a stage 2. Basically if I get another one of someone while mine is being repaired how hard is it to fit? What gaskets do I need? Does it need to be a escort or fiesta t3 or will a 4x4 or other t3 fit? Any help is greatly appreciated....
If the air filter end of the turbo is pointing the left side of the car its a T3 and to the right side of the car then T2, to replace a turbo you will need:
- If you take the whole unit off with manifold, then a new exhaust gasket
- New oil feed pipe
- Oil change and filter is essential

Well when I look in the car its got a bit of pipe coming out to the right with a cone filter stuck on the end.... I have just changed the oil and filter 2 days ago will I need to do it again???
if you are sitting in the car and the air filter end is pointing to the right it is a T2 and to the left then T3 their is quite a bit of size difference between the two.Does this help??
Chris.
Thanks mate I thought it was a t3 and when Im in the car its facing left. How hard are the seals to replace with a kit you can buy? My friend is a good mechanic but has never done a turbo before???
They need to be balance so if you can't get it balanced and you or your mate hasn't done a turbo before then leave it to the professionals or a replacement secondhand turbo.
