Default 200sx engine smoking after rebuild HELP

Thought i'd try my luck on here as I at my wits end so please help a fellow petrol head out. Had my 200sx S13 (CA18det) fully rebuilt as the big ends were gone, since it was built its smoking literally like a steam train especially more so when you rev it, on idle it smokes but not as bad. Smoke is a bluey/white colour, almost like it was burning oil and water.

Checked rings as thought one may have been cracked but my mechanic said there fine. The water doesn't seem to have any traces of oil and engine sounds sweet as a nut. Plug three looked slightly wet (water not from fuel ).

Engine is now apart and still can't see find the problem? Any ideas or advice welcome

Mark

white smoke?

If so its water getting into the cimbustion chamber.

HEAD GASKET (oops caps) would be my guess!

Car wasn't smoking before the rebuild turbo seemed fine only rebuilt it as the big ends were shagged I don't believe a compresson check was carried out before it was stripped as I was told it was probably ring on number 3. Turns out its not. I am on my second Ł200 HG

If the HG was damaged during fitment could this cause it to smoke soo badly?

You know you can re-use metal headgaskets?

Have you removed any boost pipes to check if there is oil in them? If so, it'll be the turbo.

already used it twice thats why i got a new one. This is the 3rd time the heads come off.

There doesn't seem to be any oil in the boost hoses.

How about oil in the exhaust? You actually driven it yet?

If the rings were passing alot of oil, it will take a while to clear!

Have you done the breather pipes wrong?

If they are allowed to breath IN (ie 1way valves not working/fitted) the car smokes like a fucker usually, really bad, dunno why, seems to be a CA18 thing.

Apart from that, well, the usual stuff, summats broke

You sure? Im not.

If it was just a turbine housing seal or two thats fucked, it shouldnt affect the compressor side.

And if its just white water smoke it deffo shouldnt make oily boost pipes.

True.

I'm just going on the fact that it has had a big-end failure, therefore its likely to have an exhaust full of oil. Of course there are lots of things it could be, such as a cracked/warped head, cracked block, incorrectly fitted head gasket etc. The list goes on.

Why would the big ends going give you an exhuast full of oil?

What it could be is that there isn't enough back pressure in your exhuast to keep the turbo seals from leaking and you need a 1 way valve fitted on the breather pipe that goes from the exhuast side cam cover to the inlet pipe between the AFM and turbo. Maybe you had one fitted before and since the re-build, it's been removed, fitted the wrong way around, etc.

If this was happening, you'd have no oil in the boost pipes, it'd only be going through the exhuast housing and the exhuast.

I would do a leakdown test as a first port of call if you have access to a tester, failing that at least do a compression test.
