Default Nikasil liners on E36's/2nd car

I remember reading about this on here before but can't seem to find the post . Currently looking for a run around. What was the problem with the blocks/liners ? is it only on certain models and also is it date specific?

Any other suggestions for a grown up car that is "drive and forget", can be left anywhere etc but also not boring/gay..............preferably German i think.

Only other thing i can come up with is an E39 V8 4.4i

e36 and e34 are the main cars effect

M60 and M54 (early) engines.

If the engine is running badly (down on power, hard to start, missing on idle) it could well be bore wear.

Its not cheap to fix.

E39 for example didn't suffer (in the main).

P reg - he has had the car for a few years now and never has had any major problems with it. The only worst issue he had that I can remember is from a few years ago when his rad sprang a leak and we could follow him up the road from the trail of water
