Default running problems, need a part

just bought an xr3i converted to rs turbo with frst engine loom etc. had a t3 fitted. runs really bad on idle and when say cruising at 70, put your foot down and car boosts a lil bit then starts shacking. was thinking it could be the map sensor as when i unplug it, its runs ok jus a bit of a high idle and very rich. but smoothly.

any ideas what else it could be and the best place to get a MAP sensor from. got a price on a new one from a tuning place and they want £134

cheers chris

Hi mate what manegment you running 'OFAB' or 'OFAC'? If you not too sure then you'll have to have a look under the dash to see what it says on the ecu or even easier you can tell by looking at the map sensor

The problem sounds like your overboosting thats why the car is shacking (is it jerking back on high boost??) and you need a chip

The rough idle could be due to it running rich etc and needs a setup

But give us the spec first and managment type and we'll take if from there

Good Luck

sorry its running ofac i've been told. how can i tell by looking at the map sensor? not convinced its the correct one fitted. its not jerking on high boost more on full throttle but only intermittantly.

tried setting it up earlier but turning the co adjuster is doing nuthing so i think i may need a new one, also tried setting the idle speed but running too bad to do it.

the idle valve is on the side of the throttle housing phil.

found some specs for engine management components so gonna go and test them in the morning.

put a fault code reader on it earlier on and got co potentiometer out of limits and an intermittant map sensor fault

It sound like its diffenitly over boost at higher revs, this is a problem, you mension that the map sensor is fucked, well i'm sure that the ofac cars came with a small map sensor than that of the ofab the link below may help.
