i want to clean and tart up the outside of my metering unit, and was wondering, if i take the main top cover part off, is anything going to be spring out at me, or is there nothing inside there really?

i know i will need a new gasket, which i will check with fords first to make sure they still have them.

if i do this tho, am i likely to fook something up? or is it prity straight forward??

 

If you split the bottom casing from the top part you will be fine

They're made out to be scary but fear not

New gasket will be a good idea if you are dismantling

 

You won't get the gasket from Ford, but Bosch might still do them.

You can usually get away with using the old gasket

 

oh right cool. if not can you do the old trick and use an old ceiral box??

Well, if worst comes to worst and you can't get a gasket, the options are, and in order of my preference:

Gasket paper
Instant gasket
Using no gasket
Using a cereal box as a gasket

i will give Ford a bell and see if they got it first, or i shall get some gasket paper and make one

See if you can get an original gasket as they are cork, not paper

 

I though you were taking the actual fuel distributor unit apart. I meant the gasket in that one. That you can't make out of a Kellogg's box.

well phoned my local ford up, and they have one on the shelf awaiting my collection

oh and the price has gone up tho, now Ł8.16 plus vat.

yer i had to have him tell me twice

and i stripped it all down tonight, and see what you mean about theres not much to them. and the inside was covered in shitey grease as well. so thats all been cleaned up.

 

I wish my local dealer had the parts in stock!!!

It will soon get covered in oily grime again, its from the breather system

 

do i have to fit the breather back on the metering unit then?, and instead fit one of then little crank case filter???

 

You could opt for a different breather system, you would have to balnk the inlet into the air box, and then fit a filter to the open pipe

 

cool, will look into that then, hopefully stop all that crap clogging up the inside then

You will also benefit from disconnecting the whole engine from the system, so less potential air leaks.

However, you may notice some fume smells inside the car with an external breather
