Default Wow, thats a hefty bill

Just asked for a quote off a company for some work on the Saff. Asked them to do the whole thing, engine, clutch, gearbox, diff etc and just got the quote back.

£11,760 + VAT.

Daftest thing is, I'm quite pleased with that and seriously considering going ahead with it, as its quite an intense amount of work.

Girlfriend just asked if I was mad, and I'm not sure anymore

I understand you will have a superb spec car , but if its the saff in your sig then your mad as you will never get anything like your money back if you ever sell ,,only worth spending that amount on a escoss , you wont get your money back on that either but a escoss will always hold its value better that a saff,

But its your car and i hope you will be happy with it if you go ahead

Paul

I never ever expect to make money on a car. I do it because I want to. I don't ever think shit can't do that, I'll never get it back.

I made enough on the last house sale anyways to keep me in fuel and beer for a while.

Well, I can post the bits that are being used.

200 Block
Cosworth Racing L/C Pistons 0.25mm
Mains Set
Big Ends Set
Thrusts Set
4WD Oil Pump
Block Bore
Aux Shaft & Plate
ARP Big End Bolts
Helix 6 Paddle Clutch kit
WRC Head Gasket
550 BHP head
Water Pump

Pair Verniers
Autronic SM4
Turbo GT30
Head Bolt Set
Tappets
Crank Polish

MAD, sounds good to me to be honest- a resonable price and I bet it will be excellent.

All items spec'd to the car- not a hotch potch of second hand bodgery.

BUT

I'd buy one done- (well I did so there we go) I bet somet like that done could be hand for 8-10k or maybe a bit more as finding one done to that spec and as well as it will be may be hard.

But look at it like this- sell your car- depending on condition and spec you'll get lets say 4k minimum.
Then add 6k to it buy one done and you've just saved 6k straight off and probably quite a wait- and you'll buy somet with most of the bugs ironed out too.
Then say 500 quid on bits and bobs to make it your car- change the guages, change the wheels.. etc.

I consider Carwise to be reputable, I've read a lot of what they do, spoke to a few ex customers and the work they've done on mine has always been superb and, as I freely admit, I am no car mechanic yet they always take the time to explain things to me if I'm not following.

That equals reputable for me.

Cheers for the comments Paul.

whats the "list " ????

as im sure there are lots of tuners out there we habe not heard of and also alot of tuners who have unfortunate customers who wreck there cars yet slag off the manwith the spanners rather than the idiot with the keys ???

im interested where this list is as over the years the list changes time and time again,,,,,,, the old ones get found out and replaced by new ones

1 time scc was the bee knees in erst tuning,,,,, now they got looked at as " fit me a exhaust" from the new people who never read last years list

i recall paul hills being a BIG list member until a few stories went about

is MAD on the list as hes got dome good cars,,,,,,,,, well 2 as the rest ive never seen or heard off compared to the the volume of cars that come out of other garages,,,,,,, mainly due to marks list i think

grove,,,,,,, are they on the list as his customers swear by them......... yet we all slag ahemd off

is karl norris on the list,,,,,,,,,, again hes list is a hard one to get on,,,,,, think its easier to get on the queens birthday party list

infact the only one ive seen with a real general bunch of customers and is on the "list" is msd as he dont seem to vet his customers before he lets em join and seems to convince his customers to either spend there moneyu on the car or seems to be lucky to avoid the bad press,,,,,,,,,, but then ive just rememebred his list is getting to be a long one now too

where is jamsport on this list,,,,,,,, they seem to have great ideas

the way i NOW look at it is tuners have a peak period where mags visit em all the time to do features,,,,, work hard and get on a list,,,,,,, make there cash,,,,,,, loose interest and then keep there select clients who pay the bills and then let the others work hard for there "list" ect

just mentioned it as i was talking to alexzvhcabrio about lists today

No apology needed mate, never took offence

I hear what your saying, but thats someone elses spec that they wanted. This is my car that I've made sure can do what I want. I dunno, to me its just more special, its my bollocks I broke earning the cash to get it done my way and that gives me more satisfaction than buying one pre done to someboby elses requirements.

Cheers

How is it getting done your way if you dont actually understand what half the bits do anyway though?
IF they had recomended the same spec as RHYS's that is whta you would have ended up with anyway, lol

Im sure it will make you smile though, and thats all that matters

Sure I could go out and buy one, but my point is I earned the money to buy the parts to get it done how I wanted it. The spec isn't set in stone and I told Neil that when it gets done to be creative as he told me he comes up with nutty ideas all the time. Well, I don't want something everyone else has, I'd like something a little different.

Its hard to explain, but this is the way I prefer to do things. Just cos I don't know what the bits do doesn't mean I can't explain to someone what I want in laymans terms and they can work it out.

Cheers
