that was the whole point that Ben was trying to make in that mag, you can put any engine the Escort really, but it doesn't mean its still an RST, just the shell, which to me is right.
It should be about how far you can push the original CVH engine.
All the others are Escort/whatever hybrids...
For example if someone stuck a phantom jet engine to the top of an RST and hit Mach2, would it be fair to say its the fastest RST in the world?
No...

So Wes - if it's all about original engine then head work, diffierent cam, diffierent turbo, diffierent pistons, diffierent c/r, diffierent fueling, diffierent exhaust system etc are all not included.

As long its ays RST on the logbook its an RST simple.
People say its not standard so as soon as you put in a halfords bulb instead of a Ford one its changed from the manufactuars spec.
Bollox just be happyu the world od of RS tuning is still progressing and people still have enough admiration to spend shit loads on old Escorts

I agree, 1600CVH only should count as fastest RST, Doesnt matter if you modify the internal spec (rods, pistons, cam ect..) as long as its CVH and 1600.
Sunny, a modified CVH is a mile away from a Hybrid/totally different power plant so why should it be original spec as it came from the factory?

FACT of the matter is anyone saying RST have to be 1600cvh are saying this as they know they don't stand a chance against an R S TURBO with a proper engine.
Also Once engine capacity has increased DVLA are informed and make ammendments however not to the name RS TURBO!
Hey dudes just curious about this post.. so then would this also be the same as saying..
Martin's car with the ally block and head wasn't really a cosworth cause it's a different engine?
Please explain why yes and or no?
(before some say he doesn't have it anymore, this is of course when it was in)
Thanks peeps

my own personal view is that an rst is an rst with a cvh in... if i timed a reader with a s2 rst converted to rwd and cossie powered i would put him in the cossie class.

IMO its whats on the log book- regardless of engine!

rolls - my fez will go under, 'miscellaneous!' I really don't care what my car's classed as i just look at the times!
ok guys (fastmaul)... and let's be honest here, if martins escort had done his times using a blown big block chevy and a two / three speed auto box, i doubt anyone would have crowned it the 'king cossie.' am i right in assuming this, or would everyone have been happy (this being the case) if we'd have put 'the fastest cossie ever' on the front cover with his car? i think not!
Cheers,
Ben

I spose you can never define the classes that any car should be in, its all down to personal opinion....
Rolls I did see a write up about a bloke that did it in America, but the car actually took off and went into a mountain a couple of miles away, all they found of the person that did it was a finger nail....

The thing is everyone has different views what counts and there are so many variables in the tuning world.
Martins cossie was a fine example of what mainly still a cossie engine on evolution of the cossie engine with other custom made parts to cope with the power.
The same can be said about most RST,s i.e the zvhS zetecs
But in the same way most people wouldnt class an XR3i/XR2i with a RST engine transplant as an RS.Or if Jim fitted a cossie YB engine in his XR4i it would still be an XR.
But fitting a chevy V8 and auto box to Martins is totally altering its original charector okay it would still be a cossie but it all depends on what your own personal views of the limits are.
If I wanted to belong to a club where veryone agreed I would buy an Allegro

Erik, I think this will always be a grey area and one where people agree to disagree...
my whole point is that if an rst with a 500bhp cossie lump and rwd went to an rst vs cossie event, and banged out an 11second quarter, the people saying "it doesn't matter what engine your car's got, it's still an rst on the log book" would soon change their tune when owner of said car went up to collect the rst trophy. My guess is they'd be saying, "but thats not fair it's a cossie".

It's like saying I'm putting a scooby engine in my Cossie. Ok, I do understand your answer, but did it have the original YB in it at the time? i don't remember?? anyway. cool dude!

_edited cause I didn't see the other replies!
Ben ok dude, I see what your saying! Indeed always a grey area!
now can we please stop saying Chevy engines and say big ole Ford V8's!! at least it's still a ford!
