FWD Cars running skinny road typres and poor suspension geometry.
Its the same as TOTB, SantaPod, and anywhere else apart from the internet Grand Prix, the Fords never live up to the expectations.
Power isnt everything.

Well if i was some of these guys i would be crying.
Let me put it like this a mk3 escort shed running a totaly std 2.0 zetec inc management all it had was an air filter and exhaust and the times for that were;
Top speed = 120.9, 0-100 = 20.95, 0-60 = 7.69.
And all this with only 135bhp
Now not the qiuckest but thats not the point
Right now lets add the cost of this car up and we get to the grand total of Ł2000 thats for the whole car all done and on the road inc buying the car engine tax and tested etc etc.
Now that was way back in 2001!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was no trick suspension or any thing just a thrown together toy for a bit of fun.
Tested by Performance Ford at Brunters.
The point im trying to make is simple why spend so much money, these times are easy to get with a lot less cash.

I take it they were at Brunters, it's not the easiest place to get the power down and it's not as good as a drag strip.
As for the top speed, alot of guys dont risk the engine.
Still, Jano did a sub 6sec to 60

My engine is a std 1600 taken from another salvage car 60k...
The times i got are great for the spec compared to all the others.
Top speed is not somthing i will ever go for as my Ł60 gearbox and std engine are not ment for it
Was all about the fun on the day (
Big up FAST FORD!!) not trying to prove times and break land speed records
... My car is a bufty motor anyways
not for going 150mph down a dusty runway. You should see the state of my side skirts (EVEN AFTER 5 LAYERS OF THICK TAPE)
I couldnt be happier to see a std engine produce the times it did.

I reckon I could take all but a couple of those top speeds on with a gear to spare!!
No, seriously though, it's tough to get it all to come together on the day. So, big-up yourselves for that!! There are an awful lot of people out there that shout about their power and spec, but never turn up at timed events.

ok, to start with it was an excellent day and everyone had a good time - thats the main thing.
now, the cars, a lot is down to the driver and conditions on the day. there was a bit of a head wind and ollis car has previously cracked 165mph. now on the day he couldnt get over 155mph, Karl norris was there making tweeks to the car too, but at the end of the day the condtions wernt 100% so he didnt do any better than before.
some the cars were not much better than std, but still put in good times, some claimed big power but had probs on the day - one went home via the AA etc...
to sum it up, these thrashes are for a bit of fun and to see what your car can do on the day, take the TOTB lot, that was a fucking awsome day and EVERYONE had a bloody good giggle and some very good times were put down.

I may have spent the last 5 years restoring the car to how i want it to be, but i built it to be driven and thats just what i did!!
Sure its covered in stonechips now and prob will still be when its at Ford Fair, but fuck it lol
I was quite impressed with my times, for a saff weighing cabbie with, ok 18psi but a boggo standard lump i was very impressed
Not bad going i thought, after all its for cruising to and from hairdressing appointments not top speed runs

I was just suprised that only 2 cars done more than 130mph.
What is the top speed of a standard S1 ? 127mph ?
Just thought every modified turbo would at least do 130mph

Mike,
The XR3 has been to Brunters 4 times previous and produced great results every time
I thought it was only fair the S1 had at lest one go at everything from Brunters to Brands hatch
who gives a shit about times i went there to have a good laugh and enjoy the day
which i did
till i missed 5th on my 2nd top speed run and twatted 2 valves
i always shit me self at high speed cos mk3 bonnets flap like fook over a ton and if they pop it's not pretty
it was a hot day and turbo motors dont produce there best power in warm air especially when they've been ragged round for hours.and we was against a head wind
i for 1 wanted to be able to drive the thing home which i did even with 2 bent valves
100 miles at 50 mph
all fixed now though
for the people spouting off about crap times get em to brunters and see how you get on you may or may not be as fast as you think
any way cheers neil and dan from ff i had a good day and i reckon it's a good feature see ya at ford fair

As mentioned, sometimes you get to brunters and problems hold you + your car back, so best is not achieved. Normally weather. lol
