Default Any Golf Drivers??

My next car is going to be a golf without a doubt, but i was keen on getting the V5 2.3 model, but someone told me yesterday that they are juicy and i'll be forever filling it up, and recommended the TDI 1.9, any of you guys have any experience with either??

Thanks

the v5 is a thirsty engine, but can be bought very cheap, if you don't do many miles it's a bloody bargin.
