A few days ago, the French police definitely confiscated 1 Ferrari 360 and 1 Porsche 993 turbo. Their owners, Mark Shafari and Gerald Harrison, were caught at 257km/h and 190km/h on the A26 French highway.

They don't get them back either! They are to be sold!

257km/h = 160mph+

I dont really see you have much room to complain if caught at that speed whilst illegally racing on the highway.

A large fine or driving ban maybe but removal of your 100k car would be a tad galling

Dont get me wrong, i LOVE fast cars and driving them hard etc, but no one can claim that the gumball isnt filled with driving that potentially is going to cost the lives of either competitors or their passengers or innocent bystanders and i dont see how anyone can argue that any country they pass through doesnt have the right to do EVERYTHING in their powers to stop them.

Look at the horrific crash that the Reyland car was involved in for example, its only really luck that meant no innocent bystander or other competitor or martin or less wasnt killed.

How is it obvious they can replace them?

Supercar owners are not necessarily rich, they may have put every last penny into their cars and live in a cardboard box for all we know.

My mate has owned Ferrari's, Lotus Esprit's and Porches, but is a normal fella on Ł 8.50/hr

 

99% of supercar owners are rich and it isn't cheap to compete in the Cannonball either

 

Even most wealthy Ferrari owners would struggle to pull another Ł130k out of their ass

 

they know the risks involved so its their own fault IMO

 

bet no other fucker stops from now on


id rather use my car and pus the old bill off the road


but heres a hint for em

come home and claim they been stolen and claim off insurance

 

Lose a 100k car then 6 months inside for insurance fraud

not as esay as it sounds mate, last year a guy wrote off his Ferrari at the Nurbergring so he trailered it back to the uk left it on the side of the road,went home and rung the police to report it stolen,once his insurance company started investigating they soon found out the truth and he ended up being arrested for fraud

 

would take his mind off losing the car and after six months he will realise he dont need a car anymore

 

I can just imagine the claim form:

"Have you spoken to the local police about the theft of the car"

Reply:

"Yes we spoke for a long period of time about the incident"

 

the bloke from nurburg was silly, he should have LOST the car and not claimed is was stolen but recovered with all locks inplace and no signs of damage to the surounding area but the car

bet he left his tickets in the car too,,,,,,, maybe his passport

 

If you're caught street/motorway racing in NYC the cops take your car and you kiss it goodbye.
