Default Bore liners on an RST block?

As title can someone give me the low down on fitting bore liners to an RST bottom end, why is it done and is it safe to use?

Not recommended. Takes away too much metal from the block, which makes it inherently weak.

interesting the reason i asked was i was looking at an RSt bottom the other day that had been rebuilt and the seller mentioned it had a liner fitted into one of the bores.

Why would it need a liner? badly worn bores?

I don't agree, think they are fine. Haven't personally used them, but a friends has just rebuilt his using liners. They are harder wearing than the original iron, and used in all alloy block engines, so i can't see the problem. They're just not cheap.
