Sounds like a diesel on startup for the first 2 seconds then goes to normal. than in 1st 2nd and 3rd from 2-3ishk rpm i can hear a diesel kinda clatter and above that ist is just exhaust noise so cant tell if it gets worse. Its had a new head put in and i tried my best to bed the cam in ok. Smokes under load and im assuming thats pistons rings and the fact it hasnt been set up properly yet(maybe some overfuelling,set up due weds)
any ideas what the clatter could be?Also is there a gasket from manifold to turbo cos my join there leaks air.

No manifold betwee turbo and manifold, the faces have to be completely clean and true.

The noise could easly be ur airleak. What u describe does sound a lot like a broken ring land...

 

Wicked really wanted that to be the problem, got nothing left over money wise now. Going to save to rebuild my mondeo zetec then it seems and just drive this gently for as long as possible.

 

if it is a broken land, u an do 000's and 000's usually before it eventually breaks the ring, and u loose compression.
