Luke,

You have a comms problem. The Megatune cannot talk to the ECU.

One common prob to check is that you have power to the ECU? You must have the ignition on to down load to the ECU.

Whats an imbo???

Yes bridge the boot gap and follow the destructions in the dos prompt box.

From what i remember, once you have upgraded to the extra code you do not have to bridge the gap to upgrade to later versions of extra.

Remember that the megatune version you are using must match the firmware version you are using. If they do not match this may also cause the problem you have come across.

If you have updated the firmware you need to change to the megatune version that is recommended for it.

First things i would check though are. You have power to the ecu when trying to talk to it and you haven't changed any comms settings.

Where did you get your ecu from? Mtech by any chance?

They should have loaded the correct firmware on ther for you and supplied a cd with the correct megatune.

As long as your comms are ok and there is power to the ecu you should be able to plug in the DB9 cable, start megatune and talk to your ecu.

Get a meter and find 12v and the earth on the wiring diagram for the DB 37 ECU connector. Turn the ignition on and see if you get a 12v reading.

Take the ecu out of the car.

Get your spare loom and put the live and earth direct to the battery and see if you get any lights.

Cuts out the whole car loom and potential problems with immobilisers etc.

Also, are you using a USB to Serial Convertor or has the laptop got a traditional 9 pin serial port as I know of a couple of tuners who have had problems with the USB to Serial Convertors

Basically take it to the 'lowest common denominator' which is live, earth and comms.

Starting from that point you should find out if your ECU is fooked or not.

One of my customers did a silly thing with his, he did a hardware upgrade and tested it without fixing it back in the casing, then with the ignition on moved the base board and shorted it on the casing...

It can be done.

Errrrrr the statement 'If there were the right ones' would worry me slightly.

Have you not got a wiring diagram for it ?

What exactly did you do with the live and earth? And how do you know it is buggered. Have you tried talking to it with the laptop while the ecu has power to it? The LEDs do not show if the ecu has power or not so they are no indication.

yes the ECU and lap top were both used to unload the base map and firm wear i was sent origanly . after doing tellin the person that sent it he said theres a new firm wear and sent me a diffrent mega tune along with a file named "029q2" so heres what i did :
pluged the cable in to the ms then in to the lap top
briged the boot gap
turned on the ignition
opened up MegaTune 2.25b717 beta
and was told to upload a file i was sent named "029q2"
so i opened it and then got a message come up sayin " page 1: could not conect to controller

oh about about the wires i checked them from my other loom will check agen with a wiring digarm now

thanks

Dude!

Stop!!

Theres some serious basics to check before you plug another ECU in....

you risk killing that one!!!

Find out whats happened to your 1st ECU before you do ANYTHING else.
