Default Help needed before I call the scrap man!!!!

Mornin guys, need a bit of knowledge because this is really doing my head in.

Just bought a 1990 Escort Bonus, 1 old man owned it from new, 31k, immaculate car, was chuffed to bits. Went out this morning to it, to find floor was flooded! Not just damp, but every foot-well flooded (passenger floor mat was actually floating).

The car does NOT have a sunroof (had trouble with these before so wanted one without), only thing I can think of is there is a hole about 3 inches long at fuse-box which is being welded next week, but would all that water get in there? Also battery tray has seen some action from a home mechanic but again I didn't think that amount of water would get in through there? Only other thing I can think of is the seal around the drivers door has a small tear in it.

Any help would be very much appreciated with this one, the car has been sittin for about a week and the rain has been on and off but heavy. I'm sick of puttin ma feet into a swimming pool but the car is far too good to scrap!

Could be a leak on the bottom of the windscreen, but i would say more than likely the battery tray
