Hi, still dont have any pics on yet cos i'm on the college computer but i thought i'd just let you all know what it is i'm actually doing. The car its happening to is a standard 1993 1.4 escort, the bodywork and chasis are in excellent condition with the only major rust being on the underside of the floor, this isnt a problem as it'll be getting replaced with the sierra floor. as yet i havent done any of the major work yet, i've removed the old engine and subframe etc and have just got the cossie engine wired and sparking ready to run. the next steps are to cut the old floor out and get the engine and subframe lined up than i'll make up some brackets to weld onto the chasis to mount the subframe. once ive got all that aligned and know its in its final postion i'll weld it up solid then set about welding in the new floor and strengthening it wherever possible. after that i simply need to remove the rear suspension, get the cossie back end in place and weld up mounting points for it all. obviously theres a few other jobs to do like get the brakes kitted out and sort out a propshatf etc but i'm not too concerned with them at the moment and they should be easy enough to do any way. for the brakes i'm using the standard 2wd saph cossie setup with ABS. if anyone is needing dimensions or pics of any particular part let me know and i'll try and get them sorted while everything is off the car, also i've got loads of the 1.4 stuff thats not required which i'll put up in the for sale section, engine and gearbox, loom etc. hopefully i'll get some pics up before the weekend. cheers.
finally got some pics,

the pics above are what the car was like when I bought it, 65k and mint condition, not bad for Ł50!!!

now i've got the hang of that, heres some pics of how it sits just now,

not yet welded up brackets for the subframe as I need some dimensions so I can position it making the wheels sit central in cossie wings which I've not got yet. the engine and subframe are roughly in their final position at the moment and the floor is cut out ready for the Borg Warner box to get offered into position for some brackets to be made. Hopefully once I know the sizes it'll be welded up and rolling again ready for the back end to get chopped and weled all over the place!

been makin a bit of progress over the last few days. finally decided to go ahead and get the transmission tunnel cut out, took a while using the 115mm angle grinder and about 9 discs!!! now that thats out I could finally get the box back on the engine and hoist the lot up to see what sort of space i've got in there for getting angles correct etc. because i'm using the standard 2wd saph front subframe and mounting the engine onto the standard mounts on that subframe there have been issues with having the wheels correctly alligned and gettin the engine to sit in place at the correct angle without hitting off of anything etc. i've managed to get it in a position where the engine is at the correct height and angle which also allows me to move the lot back and forth until the subframe sits in the correct position so that the wheels are central in the arches. I decided that since it was in situe i might aswell get the materials and start welding on the necessary brackets between the escort chasis and the subframe, i really wasnt sure how to go about this so I'm trying a box section steel setup at the moment which i'm just tacking in to place to see how its all going to sit when the car is back on the deck, if it works out alright then I'll seam weld it solid in place, if not, i'm pretty fooked and need to look at other options. Does anyone know current regulations regarding MOT-ing cars like mine??? i've been hearing all sorts of stories where the DVLA contact the police because of non standard engine numbers etc!!! I think its to do with tackling vehicle theft which is fine and everything i'm putting on my car is from a dvla registered dismantlers so theres no issues there, I'm just not keen on having people with authority sniffing about my car. i'll get a couple of pics up soon showing what I've done so far.

cheers for the comments, its moving quite quickly just now because i've
got all of the stuff that I need to get it all on the car but as soon as its all
fitted and the back end is on I need to start buying intercoolers and rads
etc which is when things are goin to slow right down lol, I've got the time
just not the money
. as for looks, I like the idea of going down the
sleeper road but I started this out with no intentions of doing any
mechanical work, it was simply going to be a cossie lookalike with wrc
wing etc but now its getting the yb treatment I cant help but make it look
good aswell. Heres a few pics anyway, the saph is the car all the bits came off of.

the last pic shows the gap between the subframe and the chasis which is
what I'm workin on at the moment. I'd put some pics up of what I've got
of it so far but it looks very unprofessional just now with bits of metal
poking out everywhere lol, once its tidy'd up and lookin a bit more
respectable I'll post some up!!![/list]

i take it your doing it ya self, if so good man, thats what i like to see
i do all my own stuff too and love it, and a project like what your doing is waht i want/wanted to do to a xr2 so keep the pic's and updates coming as im really intersteted in it mate.
i would go with a cossie look-a-alike, i remember a guy doing one ages ago, white base model and he converted it, looked the nuts
yeah i'm doing it all myself in my garage which only leaves me with 1 and
a half feet at one side of the car to work in so its not ideal but I'm havin a
great time doin it. I quite fancy the mk2 fiesta for it aswell but I reckon if
I do this sort of thing again it'll be on a puma or something similar. If you
ever get the chance to do something like this I'd definately reccomend it.
At first I thot it was going to be too difficult to do at home with no
proffesional equipment but once I finally but the bullet and started stripping things and cutting big bits out everything jsut gradually fell into place.
the only major issue is wheel allignment which isnt too critical at the front
as the tracking allows for a very slight tolerance but the back end is going
to be a nightmare since there isnt much adjustment on the standard
cossie setup that I'm using. I was quite lucky when it came to sourcing
parts aswell cos my dads mate runs a scrappy that has a contract with
the DVLA where they get all the cars which have been ordered to be crushed
becuase of no road tax and other reasons, when I first saw the cossie
there I asked about it and he said he was wanting a grand for the engine,
loom, diff and gearbox and the engine was seized!!! I didnt have the
money at the time, 3 months later I sold my motorbike and went back up
and it was still there but someone had taken the diff and front
suspension, when I mentioned it again he just said, tell u wot, Ł700 and
you can have everything you need, so for Ł700 I got the engine,
management loom, ECU, borg warner box, front subframe, full car loom, complete dash, complete back end including arms, beam, hubs, discs,
calipers etc, all ancillaries for engine, turbo, injectors basically everything. And when I got it home it turned out the engine wasnt even seized!!!!!! the starter motor was fucked!!!!!!!! so I was well happy with that lol.

it was actually my dads mate I bought it off of, but he could of just gave
me it aswell!!! lol. hopefully gettin some more welding gear this week so
it should be back on all fours next weekend with any luck. Once thats
done it might need to go on the back burner for a month or two because
all my cash has to go towards a new motorbike for summer and gettin to
work every day, not too happy about that but needs must and if I cant
get to work I cant save up money to finish the cossie anyway.

I like the idea of leaving it standard but I cant go without having it look
good so it'll be gettin the cosworth bumpers, vents, skirts and lights etc and
I've not decided what spoiler yet. cheers. colour suggestions are welcome
too!!!

Rite its cool, got the brakes blead, fitted handbrake cable and put the fuked shoes back in cos new ones are Ł114, fitted temp sensor so now the guage works, just need to find that clicking noise and mount the exhaust properly. will need to steal the wheels off the 1.4 again
just a quick update, the car is now rolling again, the camber is away to
fuck so I'll be ordering some adjustable TCA's which'll also let me use
the standard saph steering rack as its too wide at the moment. managed
to get it pushed out onto the drive and took some pics so I'll get them up
asap. also connected up the fuel pump and had a go at staring the engine
for the first time, fired up right away and ran sweet as a nut with no
knocking, there was no exhuast so it was hard to tell how well it was
running but everthing seemed alright, I'm pretty pleased considering its
meant to be seized. Next job is to get the steering sorted so i can turn
the car round and get started on the back end, also need to get a diff for
it. cheers.

I've not been on in ages and so thought I'd put up a small update. I cant
remember where I left off last time so i'll just tell you how it is currently.
the sierra floor is in, its welded up on the inside but Ive not had the chance
to get underneath and weld up the outside yet. engine and gearbox are
mounted solid now and the front chasis work is complete (ish). I sourced
a burnt out escos in a scrappy last month and managed to get the
quarter panels and genuine spoilers, the upper spoiler is really badly
burnt but its well on its way to being sorted. other smaller things are the
older style bonnet and tailgate. I was planning on having alot more done
by now but its the usual story about money etc but steadily work is
continuing and it will one day be unleashed, i certainly dont plan on letting it
slip away.
bigandy , whats even more uncanny is the fact that before doing this project
i did up an old mini aswell with the zeemax kit etc.
heres a few picks of the latest. cheers.

as you can see the quarters arent in the best condition but i've been working at
them for a few weeks now and the outer skins are now separated from the
rest, the guy just cut the back end off the car than split it down the middle!
the next jobs are to get the old quarters off then i'll weld the new ones on
and get the back end stripped to mount the beam. the best bit about
getting the quarters was the fact i got the chasis rails aswell so all i need to
do is cut them to fit then weld them onto the underside and the beam will bolt
straight up.
