there's a difference between seems and WAS

if you look at the decreases on the temps, mine was VERY good, as it had some high temps to deal with, and worked extremly well

As Stu said, bearing in mind the high ambients on the test day, they all did well.

Worth noting that the genuine RS500 item is the oldest design of the lot.....Designed in 1985/86 = 18 years ago, using the very best core material/end tank design methods available at that time.

Surely it should come as no surprise that the newer versions would improve on the performance of the original, given that 18 years have passed?

Edited to say that i'ts no coincedence that the NEWEST I/C to the market-place the Pro Alloy product, did the best....Big up Wayne

my radtech works excellently, 26psi held on a t34 .55 @ 7krpm in 5th in 20c ambients gave a peak of 48c and my secs monitor read within 1 degree of the r+b gauge before the doubters start

beat that for Ł300 delivered for an off the shelf piss to fit job

so in a public enemy styleeeee i got one thing to say about gen 500 coolers .......

dont believe the hype

.....or rainbird

.....................i didnt

PS brom your behind the times pal, quad coolers were done years ago you copying bast

Matt, that 48° C reading you saw MUST have been heat soak (i.e. the true reading on boost would have been much lower).....because even a shonky genuine RS500 I/C (like mine), typically gives charge temps that are not more than 14 - 18° over ambient while on boost.

doug

heat soak at 170mph

i reset the secs before the run whilst moving, the peak reading was from being held on boost for as long as i possibly dare before a corner not to be taken at silly speeds approached rather fast!! i glanced at the r+b gauge just before breaking and read the peak data from the secs whilst cruising after the run

you have to consider outlet temp also..... (were these tested in the mag? i havent got it )

mine will be a considerably higher than yours given the smaller turbo being borderline oversped, yours aint anything like the shaft speed or outlet temp a t34 is at that boost/rpm

PS presuming you have a t4 at approx 2 bar held?

But Matt, within one or two seconds of lifting the heat soak starts to build up! It rises very quickly AS SOON as you come off boost.

Fair point about the T34.....yes I am on T4 running 2.2 BAR boost with water injection (WI triggered at + 28 PSI boost/+ 38° C charge temps).

it didnt....and never has never done that in any large front mount intercooled cossie ive been in!! quite the opposite in fact! i9ve seen charge coolers take time to stabilise back after being saturated but never intercooled cars....i can see that maybe if i was to shut the throttle, stamp the brakes and stand idling it would soak it to death yes but as i said i backed off and then cruised along (throttle part open not on boost at say 100mph) i.e. air passing through the cooler thats now cooling the air thats being slowly pulled through it
