just testing my new pads and disks seeing as theyve had a good few hundred miles into them

nice and wet out, abs was givin me the judders...

on the third or 4th slam on the brake pedal gave way and now ive got a sponge pedal all the way to the bottom, but brakes do work, but only when the pedal is on the floor

this my ABS fucked???? (yes gives me an excuse to get rid of it)

 

sound like air in system you might have popped rear brake cyliders or some thing else broke which is letting air in system

 

i predict...

get a mate to press the brakes, have a look under for leaks... dont drive the car till its fixed or YOU MAY DIE! (serious)

 

Just get rid of it anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!

And check everything else out while doing so

 

back cylinders are ok, handbrake is working

am i looking for brake fluid coming out somewherE?

 

hand brake has feck all to do with the rear cylinders,

get those rear drums of and have a look,

the check the master cylinder and work ur way back

 

You won't necessarily see any fluid leaking. Even before all of that, check your brake fluid level!!!!!!!!!!!

 

fluid was a bit low so ive topped that up

no leaks from cyliners or can see from anywhere else

still brakes fucked

servo gone?

any ideas?

p.s. i have noticed theres full pressure until i start the car, then the pedal goes all the way to the floor. what does that mean?

 

How low was the fluid, if its got low enough to let air in then they need bleeding.

The pedal goes hard because the engines off (servo not working)

Just to add to your excitement, sounds like your servo will be giving up soon as it should be easy for a couple of pushes after engine switch off, if it doesnt the servo has a leak on a seal and is letting the vacuum out

hmmmmmmm il go downstairs now and have a look but im sure when i was pumping it just now with the engine off it was getting better the more i pumped it, not easier.

put the engine on then and boom spongy pedal.

think it could be just a bleed then due to low fluid?

by the way u know the steps to remove the abs then? something il be sorting soon, but i need a set of instructions to give to my garage which he will understand, seein as im not really mechanically minded.

 

it was below the minimum, front end of where u put the fluid in had no oil in it, put the oil in but the front still isnt taking any oil, does this mean it needs a bleed?

 

If its got that low then theres air in the system.......so you've found the reason the brakes dont work.

HOWEVER......with standard brakes even worn on every wheel to the limit, the fluid should never be able to go below minimum, so, i expect you have a wheel cylinder leaking slightly.

You need to check for leaks, particularly the back, and if/when its fixed, DON'T fill the fluid to maximum, because when you fit new pads it will all over flow out the reservoir all over the engine bay when you push pistons back etc.

 

if there's no leaks from the rear wheel cylinders and no visible leaks anywhere then undo the 2 nuts holding the master cylinder to the servo and pull the master cylinder forward,if there's any fluid in there it's your master cylinder thats fooked

 

hmmmm duno how to do that cos i dont know the diff between a master cylinder and a servo!

master cylinder is the thing sticks out thats got the break pipes comeing out of it, the servo is the round thing

you should be putting brake fluid in

anyway the thing that you put the brake fluid in sits on top of the master cylinder which is then bolted onto a big round black thing called a servo

just to update the brakes have had a bit of a pumping and there is definitely no leak anywhere in the system

is my problem simply letting the fluid to too low and now they need a bleed, or am i gona need a new master cylinder!!

 

The only answer to your question is to fully bleed the system, if it works, it works, if not, then more than likely the master cylinder has gone.
